Seasonal temperatures with wind and chance of rain in South Lake Tahoe

After pleasant weather conditions today, gusty winds and some fire weather, travel, and recreation concerns return Saturday, according to the National Weather Service in Reno.

Today will be characterized by generally light winds and average temperatures in South Lake Tahoe, with some sun. Expect this to change by Saturday, however, as a wave drops out of the Pacific Northwest bringing gusty winds to the region. So, if you have outdoor fall and Halloween decorations, today will be a good day to check that they are secured.

Strongest winds, gusts to 50 mph, will remain north of Interstate 80 towards the Oregon border, but gusts around 30-35 mph will be possible as far south as Highway 50. Elsewhere, gusts will be lower, but could still pose a threat to high profile vehicles in spots like Washoe Valley.

A 20 percent chance of rain is in the Lake Tahoe Basin forecast, but it will be very limited, if at all. There could be a period of critical fire weather conditions mainly between Interstate 80 and Highway 50, but certainty remains on the lower end.

Conditions improve Sunday as high pressure begins to move into the region. Winds lower significantly while temperatures begin to warm again.

Daytime temperatures will be at average all weekend, though overnight lows will be a few degrees lower than the average.
