El Dorado County BOS appoint interim head of the Community Development Agency

A former member of both the Sacramento County Board of Supervisors and California State Assembly has been named the interim director of the El Dorado County Community Development Agency.

At the BOS meeting Tuesday, Roger Niello was appointed to fill the spot vacated when Steve Pedretti left the position for Placer County.

Niello begins his job November 2.

Before he went into public service, Niello managed the Niello Auto Group for
25 years until 1999.

During his six years in the Assembly, Roger served on the Transportation Committee, Banking and Finance Committee, Public Employees, Retirement and Social Security Committee, Business, Professions and Consumer Protection Committee,
Insurance Committee and Budget Committee. He served as Vice-Chair of the Budget Committee and Banking and Finance Committee. He also served on the Joint Legislative Audit Committee, the Joint Committee on Emergency Services and Homeland Security and the Select Committee on Foster Care.

In addition to being a leader in the private and public sectors, Roger has dedicated his time to volunteering in the community. Currently, Roger is the Co-Chair of the California Civic Learning Partnership in Sacramento County and is a member of the University of California Center Sacramento Advisory Board, the Dignity Health Sacramento Service Area Hospital Community Board and the Greater Sacramento Economic Council Board. In February, 2011, Roger was named the University of California Center Sacramento Governance Fellow, the first to serve in that position.

Born in San Francisco, Roger Niello has lived in Sacramento nearly all of his life. After graduating from Sacramento's Encina High School, Roger attended the University of California at Berkeley for his undergraduate studies, and then completed his graduate studies at the University of California at Los Angeles.

Roger and his wife Mary reside in Fair Oaks. They have five adult children and six grandchildren.
