Angela Swanson Announces Run for El Dorado County Board of Supervisors

South Lake Tahoe Councilwoman Angela Swanson has declared her candidacy for El Dorado County Supervisor District 5. "There is no better time to jump in," said Swanson of her announcement. "I am in the final year of my council term and will leave office having accomplished many of my goals and with an in-depth knowledge of the key issues affecting the district." Swanson cites economic redevelopment, smart growth and community investment as her top priorities along with building cohesiveness within the newly expanded district. "Now more than ever, the district needs an experienced and knowledgeable voice to advocate for the community in Placerville, before the TRPA and in Sacramento."

Due to a changing population according to the 2010 Census, the District 5 boundaries have expanded to include South Lake Tahoe up to Meeks Bay and over the summit to Pollack Pines.

Since joining the council, Swanson has focused on environmental issues, recreation and transportation efforts in the Basin. She presently serves as the City’s representative on the Tahoe Transportation District board, a position she’s held since entering office. In this capacity she serves as Vice Chair and as Chair of the Transit Operations Committee, overseeing the operations aspect of the bus system. Along with Mayor Pro Tem Hal Cole, she represents the Council’s ad hoc committee on the recreation master plan effort that will run through 2014. She serves as a board member on the ambulance JPA, the CalTahoe Emergency Services Operation Authority. She is also the city’s most frequent representative in Sacramento, serving on the League of California City’s Transportation, Community & Public Works Committee and the regional board. “Much of local government’s fate is set by policies established in Sacramento and Washington, DC. It’s vital to maintain those relationships if we are to succeed.”

Prior to her election to the city council Swanson was elected in 2005 to the Lake Tahoe Unified School District board of education. Swanson has remained active in family and social service issues as a member of the Lake Tahoe Collaborative and the Lake Tahoe Educational Foundation. She is also an Advisory Board member for the Lake Tahoe Boys & Girls Club.

She joins South Lake Tahoe community members Sue Novasel and Gerri Greco in the race. The filing deadline for the June election is February, 2014.
