Pair arrested and facing South Lake Tahoe vehicle theft charges

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - Two people have been arrested by the South Lake Tahoe Police Department (SLTPD) after allegedly stealing a car from a home on Anita Drive.

Bryan Shuey, 28, and Anna Kozel-Vanotti, 23, were arrested and booked into the El Dorado County Jail on November 4 on felony vehicle theft and conspiracy to commit a crime charges, Kozel-Vanotti also faces the felony charge of being an addict under the influence of a controlled substance and in possession of a firearm. She is still in jail on a $100,000 bail along with a no bail LA County warrant and Shuey has since been released.

During the overnight hours of October 27 and 28, a person(s) got into a vehicle on Anita Drive and took a key fob. At 8:30 p.m. the following evening the vehicle, a Toyota Highlander, was stolen.

The homeowner discovered the missing car and called SLTPD at 8:30 a.m. on October 29.

The homeowner's camera captured the theft on camera and other residents in the area were able to provide police investigators with additional photos from their homes.

Another neighbor in the area saw Shuey and Kozel-Vanotti walking suspiciously in the neighborhood and took a photo. This photo was compared to the videos and the suspects were identified.

According to SLTPD Lt. Travis Cabral, officers also found the pair with multiple ID’s and passports for different people throughout the state. He said they were also arrested in Tahoe City in 2016 after accused of robbing the Dollar Point 7-11 at gunpoint. Both are on probation for a felony robbery in Los Angeles County.

The missing car was located by the Reno Police Department and returned to the owner.
