Review: Anything Goes at South Tahoe High, another play not to miss!

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - So here I go with another rave review from a stellar production happening here in our town! "Anything Goes" is the musical that opened this past Friday at South Tahoe High School. Thank goodness you all have all of next weekend to see the show...do NOT miss it.

The show opens with the entire cast on stage, quite the spectacle of energy, enthusiasm, and excitement. It's a whirlwind from the get-go.

I have never seen this musical or movie, but of course, I recognized the songs. Delightful! Delicious! De-lovely! Those song lyrics perfectly capture the essence and spirit of this production. Let's face it, it's Ethan and mother Niv that are behind this terrific show, so would we expect anything less than Broadway-caliber production value?! I've been enjoying their productions at the high school since before I was...oh jeez, I was in my 30s and now I'm closer to 60, but who's counting!

The cast are superstars, from the lead characters to the smaller roles that add so much depth and humor to the storyline. The costumes are gorgeous, shimmer and shine abound. The cruise ship set supports the shenanigans on stage, there is so much activity and dancing, and the choreography is pretty darn fantastic. Oh, I must add, the tap dancing brought the house down. The live orchestra was so good and did not drown out the strong voices of the singers even though they are right there on stage left. Double entendres, tongue-in-cheek witticisms, corny but cleverly and properly delivered by these teens who know their stuff. With high kicks and hijinks, the physicality of the performers was spot on.

Comments from my artist friend who has performed on Broadway back in the day, friends with Tommy Tune (now I'm really dating myself), "The talent and professionalism on stage today was just incredible. Everyone was having a good time, belting out the ballads, sly winks to the audience, such great performers."

I know numerous lead actors are seniors who will be leaving next year...but as I have seen in the past, silent stars will dare to step onto that audition stage, and surprise us all with their secret talents!

Bravo and Kudos to the entire cast and production team! Hallelujah!

Histrionically yours,
Michelle Gomez, Tahoe Art League
