Possible Lake Tahoe transportation funding solutions focus at upcoming ONE TAHOE meetings

Event Date:
December 3, 2019 - 4:00pm

Most people recognize the fact that transportation around Lake Tahoe needs to improve, but with those solutions comes a hefty price tag. Local transportation officials have been meeting with the public through ONE TAHOE to get ideas on how to fund the estimated $3.12 billion regional plans over the next 20 years.

Current public and private funding sources during this period are expected to be about $1.58 billion. This leaves a $1.53 billion shortfall in the transportation funding needed through 2040.

Since the project's launch in January 2019, the ONE TAHOE process commenced stakeholder outreach and public meetings to solicit input on potential funding solutions. On September 12, 2019, The Tahoe Transportation District (TTD), in collaboration with the ONE TAHOE project delivery team, announced the results of its tier-one and tier-two screening process to identify potential solutions.

Now the tier-three results are ready to be viewed with a proposed funding recommendation expected to be made next month. Join in on Listening Sessions to explain those results on both the North Shore and South Shore.

On Thursday, November 14, the Listening Session will be held at the Fairway Community Center in Tahoe City, Calif., 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m.

The South Shore version will be held on Tuesday, December 3 from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at the Tahoe Chamber meeting room in Stateline, Nev.

Join the listening session anytime between 4 p.m. and 7 p.m. to peruse information stations. Review results from the third-tier screening process from which a proposed funding recommendation is expected to be made next month.

The third-tier screening process has resulted in the following potential funding solutions:

Cordon pricing / Basin entry fee
Vehicle miles traveled (VMT) fee
Tolling
Zoned transportation user fee, and
Vacancy tax

Listening sessions are designed to offer an opportunity for people to review project information, provide input, and speak with transportation experts who can answer questions about proposed solutions to capture the $1.53 billion in funding needed to realize the complete transportation system envisioned in community plans.

At the December 2019 TTD Board meeting, a final transportation funding recommendation is expected to be made to elected officials and leaders.
