South Lake Tahoe blood drives to help with increase in need

The impact of the wildfires throughout California has created additional needs for blood and added importance to holiday blood donations.

Many blood drives have been canceled in the Chico area since the Paradise community was destroyed. As the days go on, poor air quality is disrupting donations at surrounding donation centers. Over 300 potential donations were immediately lost due to canceled blood drives and 500 more donations are at risk as poor air quality continues to effect donors and staff.

In areas not physically impacted by the devastating fires, blood donations are needed now and throughout the holiday season. A strong blood supply will allow blood banks to service not only our local hospitals but also offer assistance to the Paradise community.

There is a need to replenish lost blood donations and to ensure life-transforming donations continue to be available for patients in need and there are three area blood drives in the coming days:

Monday, November 19 - LTCC is hosting a blood drive in the Board/Aspen Room (located in the library building) from 11:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.

Tuesday, November 20 - Tahoe Douglas Fire District Fire Station Bays located at 193 Elks Point Road from 12:00 p.m. to 5:30 p.m.

Monday, November 26 - South Lake Tahoe Fire Department Fire Station #3 Bays at 2101 Lake Tahoe Blvd from 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m.

Please make sure you eat and drink before you to donate and bring valid ID to the blood drive.
