California Tahoe Conservancy awards over $340,000 to Washoe Tribe to restore Meeks Meadow

The California Tahoe Conservancy Board has awarded a $380,454 grant to the Washoe Tribe of Nevada and California for the Máyala Wáta Restoration Project at Meeks Meadow, and area rich in cultural and ecological importance.

NDOT changing some warning signs in Lake Tahoe, Carson Valley and Carson City

Beginning Monday, November 30, drivers will see changes to the flashing warning signals placed in advance of some traffic signals in Carson City and Douglas County, including Lake Tahoe, as the Nevada Department of Transportation (NDOT) updates the warning signals.

Lake Valley Fire releases holiday truck schedule

The time-honored tradition of Lake Valley Fire Protection District touring streets in their jurisdiction with a decorated fire engine returns starting December 11.

Due to COVID-19, the Holiday engine will not be handing out candy canes this year but all are welcome to wave and say hello from a safe social distance. Each night they start their trek between 5:00 p.m. and 5:30 p.m.

December 11 – Echo View Estates, Tahoe Mountain Road, Mule Deer Circle

December 12 – Lake Tahoe Blvd from Boulder Mountain Drive to Grizzly Mountain Drive

Two transported to hospital after trash truck overturns in South Lake Tahoe

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - Two male employees of South Tahoe Refuse (STR) were transported to Barton Hospital Thursday after the trash truck they were in turned over.

At 10:36 a.m. October 15, the trash truck was heading south on Pioneer Trail when its driver attempted to make a right-hand turn onto Elks Club Drive. The California Highway Patrol (CHP) said the driver was using excessive speed when he tried to make the tight turn, and the fully loaded truck turned over onto its left side on Elks Club.

Lake Tahoe Unified School District revamps food delivery bus schedule

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - The Lake Tahoe Unified School District (LTUSD) Meal Delivery schedule for Phase 1 Distance learning is being changed starting Monday, September 14. At the beginning of the school year there were seven buses and, based on figures from the first two weeks, routes have been adjusted and there are now five buses.

The buses are loaded with breakfasts and lunches and each student can stop by a bus stop or one of the four selected school sited to pick the meals up Monday-Friday (unless a school holiday).

Van Sickle Bi-State Park, Upper Truckee Marsh and other areas closed for public safety

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - The California Tahoe Conservancy has temporarily closed multiple high-use Conservancy properties for public safety. The Conservancy intends these closures to complement similar temporary closures of National Forest Lands to protect the public and firefighters during this time of unprecedented and historic fire conditions.

Temporarily closed sites include:

- Van Sickle Bi-State Park (includes both California and Nevada sides of the park)
- Upper Truckee Marsh (except for Cove East area, accessed by Venice Drive)

Plea expected in deadly South Lake Tahoe tanker crash

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - It has been 11 months since the deadly tanker crash on US50 and Elks Club Road claimed the life of a 36-year-old North Highlands man. The thick black smoke from the wreckage could be seen for miles as emergency response crews worked on extinguishing the blaze.

Meyers traffic meeting to discuss possible right turn restrictions this winter

EL DORADO COUNTY, Calif. Calif. - Traffic leaving South lake Tahoe through Meyers on Sundays and holidays through the winter can be a nightmare. Map apps lead visitors onto roads that are steeper and not plowed as much as US50, thus creating hazards and clogged roads. Tow trucks are backlogged hours to assist getting the stuck vehicles off Apache, Mandan, North Upper Truckee and Sawmill Roads.

Due to these jammed roads, residents in the area cannot to get to work or the grocery store, and a Traffic Advisory Committee was formed to seek solutions.

Charges to be filed against driver involved in deadly tanker crash in South Lake Tahoe

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - The driver of a Prius involved in a deadly tanker crash on US50 near South Lake Tahoe will be charged with a single count of misdemeanor manslaughter.

TRPA honors 29th annual Best in the Basin award winners

STATELINE, Nev. - Six projects were given Best in the Basin awards Wednesday by the Tahoe Regional Planning Agency (TRPA). The presentation of the 29th annual winners was made before their board meeting at Stateline.

The TRPA Best in Basin awards program showcases projects around the lake that demonstrate exceptional planning, implementation, and compatibility with Tahoe’s natural environment and communities.

Holiday Engine schedule from Lake Valley Fire Protection DIstrict

The Lake Valley Fire Protection District has released its much anticipated holiday fire engine schedule. They will be driving through neighborhoods in the county portions of the South Shore.

Pet food and supplies being gathered for Sonoma County fire victims

Pet food and pet supplies are being collected for those displaced and affected by the fires in Sonoma County.

There are several local drop-off locations but make sure items aren't left outside a closed business. Things left out would attract bears and other wildlife. Below is a list of times and locations:

It's been one heck of a summer in terms of driving around town. Between Echo Summit and the Meyers roundabout, the horrible accident at Elks Club, US50 through town and then the construction at Stateline that caused delays back to Zephyr Cove in mid-September. Luckily, the Stateline issue was quickly remedied, the highway at Elks Club seems mostly repaired, and the Meyers roundabout turned out great.

U.S. Highway 50 (El Dorado County): Work continues on a $5.2 million project to upgrade metal beam guardrail and construct concrete barriers at 89 locations from the Red Hawk Undercrossing to 1.9 miles west of the junction with State Route 89 in Meyers. Completion is expected this fall or spring 2020.

Pair sought in connection with quick change scam at Lake Tahoe

DOUGLAS COUNTY, Nev. - Two suspects are being sought in connection with a "quick change" scam at the Roundhill Safeway this summer.

The Douglas County Sheriff's Office is working on the cold case and are asking for the public's assistance in identifying the male and female pictured above.

They were at Safeway during mid-summer. The store is located at 212 Elks Point Road.

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - A three-year effort to survey the Upper Truckee River for aquatic invasive plants has wrapped up. Community members, supported by staff from the League to Save Lake Tahoe, Tahoe Resource Conservation District, and California State Parks joined together to map the plants in order to prevent their spread during major upcoming restoration projects along the river, Lake Tahoe’s largest tributary.

Update on fiery tanker explosion in South Lake Tahoe

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - A 36-year-old man from North Highlands, California has been identified as the driver of the gasoline tanker involved in Saturday's deadly crash and explosion.

The California Highway Patrol (CHP) has released more information based on its investigation. No names are being released at this time.

On September 7 at approximately 11:45 a.m. a tanker truck and trailer fully loaded

Fatal crash involving gas tanker in South Lake Tahoe

Update 10:00 p.m. - One person has died after the tanker truck they were driving on Highway 50 just west of South Lake Tahoe collided with the Upper Truckee River bridge near Elks Club Road.

The preliminary investigation shows that at 11:55 a.m. on Saturday, September 7 the driver of a Toyota Prius was making a right turn from Elks Club Road onto Highway 50 when he pulled out in front of the eastbound truck. According to CHP South Lake Tahoe Commander Terry Lowther, the driver of the Pruis violated the truck driver's right-of-way.

Community meeting on vision plan for Kahle Drive and surrounding area

Marlin Joseph "Hersh" Herschman ~ 1943 - 2019

Hersh Herschman was never a certified tennis professional, but many of those who he instructed would say otherwise.

Born Marlin Joseph Herschman on Jan. 12, 1943, in St. Ignatius, Montana, he would always be best known as Hersh or The Hersh Man. He died Aug. 7, 2019, at The Chateau at Gardnerville in Nevada of inoperable brain cancer. His wife, Sheryl, and best friend for more than 40 years Greg Painter were with him. He was 76.

After graduating from St. Ignatius High School in Montana in 1961, Hersh joined the U.S. Army for two years. He spent two summers at West Point.

Conservancy votes to allow Oflying Water Control Project to move forward on their land

The California Tahoe Conservancy voted during their board meeting on Thursday to allow El Dorado County to use five of their parcels to develop a water quality project in the Tahoe Paradise neighborhood.

The project will include the construction of conveyance channels and detention basins, and install perforated pipes to infiltrate stormwater, which will increase groundwater recharge and reduce stormwater volumes, peak flows, and stormwater pollutants.

Carson City man identified as victim in Thursday's deadly DUI crash in Lake Tahoe

LAKE TAHOE, Nev. - The Nevada Highway Patrol (NHP) has released more details about Thursday's fatal crash near Round Hill, including the name of the deceased.

At 7:06 a.m. on June 13, NHP Troopers were dispatched to a serious injury crash on US50 near Elks Point Road.

Tahoe Douglas Elks Lodge donates equipment for new lacrosse league in Douglas County

Douglas County Recreation’s Youth Sports Program recently received $600 from the Tahoe Douglas Elks Lodge #2670. These funds will be used for the purchase of new equipment allow the opportunity to develop a youth lacrosse league that has never before been available to the children of Carson Valley.

Among the items being purchased for the donation are an additional goal, soft sticks, and balls.
