South Lake Tahoe motels merge into one, the Hotel Becket

What were once three separate South Lake Tahoe motels have merged into one new lodging property, the Hotel Becket.

The San Francisco hotel chain Joie de Vivre merged the Park Tahoe and 968 Park motels into their first location in Lake Tahoe. Located at the corner of Highway 50 and Park Avenue in South Lake Tahoe, Hotel Becket was originally two Travelodge motels and one Day's Inn. Several years ago the Travelodges merged into the Park Tahoe and the Day's Inn became 968 Park.

Hotel Becket is named from the "becket knot," a nautical term for tying two ropes into one.

Rooms have been remodeled, and the hotel is adding a new indoor-outdoor southern barbeque restaurant and bar on the corner. Being added is also a new outdoor terrace, fire pits and meeting space. The hotel lobby in on Highway 50 adjacent to Applebee's restaurant, the hotel's pool and spa and meeting space will be at the old Park 968 location.

A grand opening is planned for mid-December when the name Hotel Becket goes up, though rooms are currently available under their old names. The restaurant will open then as well, though the name has yet to be revealed.

The hotel will have a resident pooch, a Bernese Mountain Dog named Remington. Hotel Becket will have a "Borrow a Bernese" program where guests can take him for walks and hikes in both winter and summer.
