Everyone can be a philanthropist with Tahoe Women's Community Fund

Time is a unifier of sorts, isn’t it, even during a pandemic. It keeps marching on, month by month, day by day and minute by minute.

The impact of the pandemic in our lives, on our families, our travel, our income, schooling and leisure time and even our health continues, unifying us as a community as well, too. South Lake Tahoe has responded, coming together in so many ways like always. Our mountain top community has always been tight, sharing the snow storms, the tourist season, good times and bad, and now the pandemic. We are a true community, engaging and supporting our neighbors as needed, as well as our non-profits and organizations that work to support those that need our help and support. The Tahoe Women’s Community Fund (TWCF) is one of those non-profits that brings our community together for good. And it is for everyone!

Five years ago, a new fund, the Tahoe Women’s Community Fund (TWCF) was formed by a board of 10 with the purpose of offering every person the opportunity to be a part of collective giving for our community. Every member becomes a local philanthropist, first giving, then voting on areas of need each year, and then once the areas are chosen, voting again for the which grants will be funded during that grant season. We have about 200 members that have joined and renewed each year. Let’s make it 400! Anyone may join for $100 as a minimum, and our levels of joining go up from there with some members joining annually for $1000 or more, increasing what we can then give. Regardless of level, each member has one vote.

We are part of the El Dorado Community Fund, and each year a percentage of our giving goes into our endowment to support the TWCF forever, building interest that we annually grant out. The bulk of our annual giving, added to the earned interest of endowed funds, goes out to support the community. It supports the areas of need and grants voted on by the members. In five years we have already given $328,000 back in local grants to non-profits that serve our community. It has been an amazing community fund.

We want everyone to be a part of the TWCF. It was founded for everyone, with no meetings and no fundraising, just the opportunity to join in the incredible power of collective giving! We are in our 2021 membership season and all members that join by the end of 2020 will be a member in building and engaging together to strengthen our community through the power of collective giving for all of 2021. Guys, you too!!

Please visit our website, www.tahoewomenscommunityfund.org to sign up. TWCF is the perfect “stay at home and be a hero” organization as we give together for the collective good in community in 2021, especially paying attention to COVID impact related needs.

There has never been a better time than now to make a difference by joining.
