Mixed bag of weather this week in South Lake Tahoe

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - Snow and rain showers will continue in the Sierra with moderate to heavy snow accumulating above 7000 feet through Sunday. This storm will continue to produce a mix of snow, rain, and possibly ice for Sierra valleys and out across western Nevada until Monday. After a breather on Tuesday, more precipitation is on the way for the middle of next week and next weekend.

The upper low that has been parked off the west coast finally ejects eastward on Wednesday. With more of a southern track, precip will be mainly south of Hwy 50 in Alpine and Mono Counties, according to the National Weather Service (NWS) in Reno.

A classic winter storm in setting itself up to roll in late Friday into Saturday. Travel could be an issue in the Sierra with another foot of snow. Lower elevations like Reno and the Washoe Valley could see rain or a rain/snow mix, but its too early to tell today. Winds may be an issue on Friday and Saturday as well.

Monday - Rain. High near 41. South wind around 5 mph. Chance of precipitation is 90%. New precipitation amounts between a quarter and half of an inch possible.

Monday Night - A 40 percent chance of showers. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 22.
East wind around 5 mph.

Tuesday - A 20 percent chance of showers. Mostly cloudy, with a high near 39. East wind around 5 mph.

Tuesday Night - A chance of rain before 10pm, then a chance of rain and snow. Cloudy, with a low around 20. Chance of precipitation is 40%. Little or no snow accumulation expected.

Wednesday - A chance of rain and snow. Cloudy, with a high near 39. Chance of precipitation is 50%. Little or no snow accumulation expected.

Wednesday Night - A chance of rain and snow before 10pm. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 19.

Thursday - Mostly cloudy, with a high near 41.

Thursday Night - A chance of snow, mainly after 4am. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 21.

Friday - Rain and snow. Cloudy, with a high near 40.

Friday Night - Rain and snow. Cloudy, with a low around 19.

Saturday - Snow likely. Cloudy, with a high near 36.

Saturday Night - A chance of snow. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 12.

Sunday - Partly sunny, with a high near 37.
