National Day of Mourning - Post office and federal offices closed

It is not very often there is a National Day of Mourning. President Trump has called for one on Wednesday, December 5, 2018 and his executive order will close the federal government to honor the late President George H.W. Bush who held the country's highest position from 1989-1993.

There will be a state funeral for the 41st president held at the National Cathedral in Washington starting at 8:00 a.m. PST. After the ceremony, his body will be moved to Texas, where he will be buried at his presidential library.

Bush died on Friday at the age of 94.

Things that will be affected by the National Day of Mourning:

The post office will only make limited package deliveries regular mail deliveries will be suspended for the day as will retail services and administrative office activity.

National parks will be closed or have limited visitor services.

The New York Stock Exchange and Nasdaq will suspend normal trading and close for the day

The US Supreme Court has delayed arguments for the day.

All federal offices are closed including Social Security and Passport offices.

Some banks are closed.

Texas and Maine are closing state agencies due to President Bush's connection to the two states.

The funeral is even affecting Hollywood. Nominations for all categories in the 61st Grammy Awards will be postponed due to the funeral, with the announcements coming on Friday instead of Wednesday.
