Six large fires in California burn 141,000 acres

Almost 200,000 people have been evacuated from their homes as six large fires continue to burn out of control in Southern California. 500 confirmed structures have been destroyed and 23,000 homes are still threatened.

The largest of the fire, the Thomas Fire, has burned 115,000 acres and is five percent contained. It is in Ventura County between Hwy 150 and Hwy 126, north of Santa Paula.

The Creek Fire has burned 15,323 acres and is now 20 percent contained. It is Los Angeles County east of Sylmar.

Another Los Angeles County fire, the Rye Fire, has burned 7,000 acres and is 25 percent contained.

In San Diego County, the Lilac Fire has burned 4,100 acres and has no containment. It is burning on Old 395 in Bonsall.

The Liberty Fire, burning in Riverside County has consumed 300 acres and is five percent contained.

The sixth fire, the Skirball Fire, another Los Angeles County fire, is 475 acres in size and is now 25 percent contained. It is burning on N. Sepulvedaq at I-405.

Over a dozen engines and several teams from the Lake Tahoe Basin and Northern Nevada were sent to Southern California to assist in firefighting efforts. They are among 5,700 men and women on the lines.
