Special City Council meeting Monday; Big agenda for Tuesday

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - There will be a special City Council meeting on Monday, December 10 at 5:00 p.m.

The councilmembers will officially accept the November 6 election results. Per Elections Code the City Clerk must certify the results of the election to the City Council.

For South Lake Tahoe this means certifying the fact that three councilmembers, Cody Bass, Devin Middlebrook, and Tamara Wallace, won the election along with Sue Blankenship as city clerk, Dave Olivo as city treasurer, and Measure T passed.

Once the election is officially accepted outgoing city councilmembers Wendy David, Tom Davis and Austin Sass will be presented with plaques of appreciation.

Tuesday's City Council meeting on December 11 will start off with the swearing in of the new councilmembers. It gets underway at 9:00 a.m.

Tuesday's agenda includes the following items:

Elect a mayor, mayor pro-tem and hear opening remarks from the new mayor.

A public hearing and possible vote on the new regulations for Cannabis. The Council can choose version 1 or version 2 on a first reading, then have the second reading and adoption at the January 15, 2019 meeting. The ordinance would go into effect February 15. (The versions will be published in South Tahoe Now on Monday).

Change the classification of the vacant Deputy City Attorney I position to Assistant City Attorney, making them full time in hopes to attract an experienced attorney. This would result in a budget line increase of $75,000 but a decrease of $304,000 in money currently being spent on outside services with Burke, Williams & Sorensen LLP which would not be needed as much with an Assistant City Attorney. The position has been open since January 2018.

Vote on a 3.11 percent interim year rate increase for South Tahoe Refuse Company, effective January 1, 2019. In 2017 STR had a 1.62 percent increase and in 2018 a 8.81 percent increase. These increases are voted on due to changes in the Consumer Price Index and landfill disposal costs. This reflects a $0.90 increase on monthly bills.

Look at reversing the Planning Commission approval of Verizon micro-cell tower at a property on Woodbine.

As with all Council meetings these two will be broadcast live. For the link, visit http://cityofslt.us/84/Watch-Council-Meetings.
