Windy weekend ahead for South Lake Tahoe; Chance of snow Sunday

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - Holiday travel may be impacted as a storm system is bringing gusty winds to the Sierra and Lake Tahoe this week along with a period of snow on Sunday. Below average temperatures will continue through the remainder of this year, with some weak storm systems possibly producing light snow accumulations and slick roads at times.

A Lake Wind Advisory is in place from 10:00 a.m. Saturday until 7:00 p.m. Sunday. Southwest winds 15 to 30 mph with gusts up to 45 mph expected. Waves 2 to 4 feet, possibly up to 5 feet along northeast shores at times, according to the National Weather Service in Reno. The strongest winds and highest waves are expected Saturday afternoon, and again during the day Sunday.

Tonight - Partly cloudy, with a low around 27. South wind 5 to 15 mph, with gusts as high as 25 mph.

Saturday - Mostly sunny, with a high near 48. Southwest wind around 15 mph, with gusts as high as 30 mph.

Saturday Night - A 30 percent chance of snow after 4am. Partly cloudy, with a low around 27. South wind around 15 mph, with gusts as high as 30 mph. New snow accumulation of less than a half inch possible.

Sunday - Snow, mainly after 10am. High near 39. Breezy, with a south wind 15 to 20 mph, with gusts as high as 35 mph. Chance of precipitation is 80%. New snow accumulation of 2 to 4 inches possible.

Sunday Night - A 50 percent chance of snow showers, mainly before 4am. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 13. Southwest wind 5 to 15 mph, with gusts as high as 25 mph. New snow accumulation of less than one inch possible.

Monday - A 30 percent chance of snow showers, mainly after 10am. Partly sunny, with a high near 35. New snow accumulation of less than a half inch possible.

Monday Night - A 30 percent chance of snow, mainly before 4am. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 11. New snow accumulation of less than a half inch possible.

The week-long forecast will be published Sunday, but at this time it looks like a chance of snow each day.
