Some roads closed around Lake Tahoe due to snow and wind

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - Interstate 80 is closed at this hour due to white out conditions and zero visibility from Colfax to the Nevada state line. SR-89 around Emerald Bay is also closed. No estimated time of reopening was provided.

Saturday's storm brought over a foot of snow to higher elevations, several inches to lake lever and a Winter Weather Advisory remains in place until 4:00 a.m. Monday morning. "Moderate to heavy snow moving back in starting late morning. High winds will bring blizzard conditions with near zero visibility for the higher elevations around Tahoe," said the National Weather Service in Reno.

An additional 3" to 7" was forecast for South Lake Tahoe during the day on Sunday, with 4" - 8" possible Sunday night, mainly before 10:00 p.m.

The roads leaving South Lake Tahoe are jammed up, especially with traffic normally taking I-80 heading over to use US-50. Meyers residents are experiencing heavy traffic and stuck vehicles as drivers try to bypass congestion at the bottom of Echo Summit via travel apps. All side roads are not recommended at this time.

An avalanche warning is in place for Lake Tahoe area from Yuba Pass to Highway 4 until 7:00 a.m. Monday.
