Community comes together to make holidays special at Boys & Girls Club of Lake Tahoe

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - The 2nd annual Wish Tree at the Boys and Girls Club of Lake Tahoe (BGCLT) brought community members together to help make the holiday special for children.

The South Lake Tahoe Association of REALTORS® (STAR) would like to thank realtors and the local community for taking part with their donations to fulfill the wish lists of 50 children.

Holiday “Wish Tree” gift tags were crafted from the list provided by BGCLT and each child selected received two gifts, said Jana Nelson, co-chair of the program and STAR communications and public relations chair.

“Every child on our Wish Tree had amazing asks this year! Wishes ranged from hair ties and mini backpacks to hot wheels,” reported Kili Ongoy, the other co-chair of the program. “This event is one of the most fun projects that we do for the community. It's getting so popular that we are looking at ways to continuously expand it!”

The 100 presents were distributed at the club on Wednesday, December 18, 2019,

The realtors also did a non-perishable food drive for Christmas Cheer and Bread and Broth.

Other unwrapped toys and art supplies were also donated to BGCLT for their “Star Store” during the year. The Star Store incentivizes children to earn “stars” with good behavior and attendance that they can exchange later for items from the club’s “store”.

The Boys and Girls Club of Lake Tahoe’s Mission Statement is to empower all young people to reach their full potential.

"The South Tahoe Association of REALTORS® gratefully thanks all the volunteers who helped make the holidays brighter this season for these children and their families!" said Nelson.
