Sierra House Elementary not opening on the first day of school August 26

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - The first day of school has been pushed out until September 9 for all of the students at Sierra House Elementary School. South Tahoe Now had spoken to the school district on Wednesday and at that time they were still hoping to have the school open by August 26.

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - A fire at Sierra House Elementary School on November 11, 2018, caused extensive damage and forced students to spend the school year at other campuses in South Lake Tahoe - 4th and 5th graders at South Tahoe Middle School and K-3 at the old Al Tahoe campus. With the beginning of school just around the corner, crews have been beefed up and are working overtime to try and get the doors open for all students on August 26.

Caltrans thanks South Lake Tahoe businesses and drivers for patience during highway project

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - Phase II of the three-year, $57,000,000 Highway 50 project from the Y to the Trout Creek Bridge in South lake Tahoe is complete and Caltrans will back in the Spring of 2019 to work on the final phase.

The project is a water quality project that has also addressed ADA compliance on curbs, widened bike paths to six feet, added bus pullouts, replaced curbs, gutters and sidewalks, added new pavement, added one stop light, and will have replaced two others and added left turn lane improvements at Sierra Boulevard when it wraps up next year.

Ordinance protects health and safety of long term motel renters

In order to ensure motels and hotels being used as long term housing were kept decent, safe, sanitary, and affordable, the City of South Lake Tahoe has created a Single Room Occupancy (SRO) ordinance. At Tuesday's City Council meeting, the first reading received unanimous approval and support.

The ordinance gives the lodging community guidelines to follow if renting out units more than 30 days.

Safe and habitable units will be made available within the next twelve months once the design and maintenance standards are approved at the next council meeting June 16.

SLT DMV Reschedules Remodeling; Closing For Two Days

The South Lake Tahoe office of the Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV) was scheduled to close last month for renovations, but due to stormy weather they postponed the project. The DMV announced today that they will be closing the office for two days in May to replace the carpet.

They are alerting local customers that their office, located at 3344 Lake Tahoe Blvd #B, will be closing for renovations on Friday, May 9, 2014, at 12 p.m.

Time to get all of your DMV paperwork turned into the South Lake Tahoe office! They will be closing for renovations at noon on Wednesday, March 26 and reopening on Tuesday, April 1.

The California Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV) is alerting local customers that the office, located at 3344 South Lake Tahoe Blvd #B will be closed so to plan ahead.
