Over 300 Vail employees volunteer during 10th annual EpicPromise Week
Submitted by paula on Wed, 09/18/2019 - 10:21pmSOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. — More than 300 employees from Vail resorts at Lake Tahoe - Heavenly, Kirkwood and Northstar - joined in during the 10th year of Vail's EpicPromise Week and volunteered hundreds of hours with local community programs focused on youth, education and the environment. This year they teamed up and contributed to four different projects around Lake Tahoe.
Incline Village Forest Service office to close temporarily
Submitted by paula on Wed, 12/19/2018 - 2:15pmSOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. – The U.S. Forest Service Lake Tahoe Basin Management Unit will temporarily close the Incline Village office beginning Wednesday, December 26, 2018. All services will be available through the Forest Supervisor’s office in South Lake Tahoe, including the sale of Access, Senior and Interagency passes along with fuelwood (seasonal) and wilderness permits. The South Lake Tahoe office also sells maps and offers backpacking, biking, hiking, off-highway vehicle and other recreational information for the Lake Tahoe Basin.

Stephen was born in Camden, New Jersey on March 18, 1963. He graduated from Rutgers University in 1985 and completed his Medical Degree from Pennsylvania State University in 1990. Stephen practiced Orthopedic Surgery for 25 years. On May 18, 1991, he married Barbara Lee Storck. They raised two children Brandon and Allison.
Llamas make a visit to Barton Skilled Nursing Center
Submitted by paula on Sat, 08/11/2018 - 10:57pmIt's not every day llamas are on the visitor list at a hospital, but that is exactly what happened last Thursday at the Skilled Nursing Center at Barton Hospital in South Lake Tahoe.
The Novak family of South Lake Tahoe brought their five llamas to meet and mingle with the residents. Tonto, Pico, Krank, Packa and Jafer walked around, letting residents feed and pet them.
This is the second time the Novaks brought their kids and the llamas to Barton. Not only were they a hit with the residents, but the staff was able to squeeze in a few selfies.

SAR volunteers aid in search of Bay Area man missing in Yosemite

Oakland resident Alan Chow, 36, had his backpacking gear and wilderness permit when he set out on a solo hike Saturday, February 17 on the loop trail in Yosemite's northern wilderness area above Hetch Hetchy, about a mile from O'Shaughnessy Dam.
He became disoriented and lost his way.
Emanate Art Gallery opens at The Crossing in South Lake Tahoe

Three long-time locals have become part of that vibe and opened Emanate Gallery in The Crossing at Tahoe Valley at the Y and will be celebrating with a grand opening weekend February 24-25 10:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m.
Benjamin Sullivan, a 2010 South Tahoe High graduate, joined Angela and Ron Cabrera in opening the new gallery, complete with its own full service custom frame shop and unique delivery services.

Boys & Girls Club of Lake Tahoe in need of a new truck
Submitted by paula on Tue, 03/14/2017 - 2:36pmThe Boys and Girls Club of Lake Tahoe (BGCLT) is need of a truck after a recent crash on Johnson Blvd. in South Lake Tahoe totaled their 2002 Chevy. This truck was vital to the club's transportation needs and insurance will not cover replacement.
Nobody was hurt in the collision.
During the school-year, the truck is used to transport food to and from the club's satellite site, Bijou Elementary School, as well as donations that the community provides.
Generation Green teens build new boardwalk at Taylor Creek
Submitted by paula on Sat, 08/20/2016 - 9:15pmA new boardwalk on the Taylor Creek Rainbow Trail was officially opened on Friday as Generation Green celebrated the results of their labor with a ribbon cutting ceremony.
The 100 foot boardwalk replaces an often flooded path around the popular stream profile chamber, a path further weakened by beavers boring underneath what used to be full of asphalt.

May 12, 2015 - 6:00pm South Lake Tahoe native Aaron Hussmann will share his book, "500 Miles of South Lake Tahoe Hikes" at the South Lake Tahoe Library on May 12 at 6 p.m.
After going away to college, Aaron moved back to the Sierra Nevada mountains for an intentional summer of hiking and backpacking that became the basis for his guidebook.
Just in time for hiking season, Hussmanm hopes his work will inspire others to get outdoors and become better stewards of Lake Tahoe.

They watch glaciers march, volcanoes erupt and exotic animals graze while becoming forever friends.

South Lake Tahoe locals create Bakpocket eco-products

Since August 8, the company has their newest product, the Adventure Hammock, listed on Kickstarter, which is a global funding platform designed to help small startup companies to promote their projects and products.

Staffing changes had shortened the hours since Jan. 11. Normal hours of operation are Wednesday through Friday from 8 a.m. until 4:30 p.m.

Beginning Jan. 11, the office at 855 Alder Ave., will be open Wednesday through Friday from 9 a.m. until 3:30 p.m. The change is a reduction of about two hours each day and is only temporary, said Lisa Herron, Forest Service spokeswoman. It is not a result of funding cuts but changes to staffing.
