The Lake Tahoe Paddle Festival is a solstice celebration of human powered watercraft featuring ancient art to state of the art boats, boards and paddles. The focus is the preservation of indigenous watercraft art and culture. Interpretive exhibits will highlight sustainable recreation, healthy foods, yoga, healing arts and environmental awareness.

Lake Tahoe trails workshop on June 7

Nevada Division of State Parks will host a trail workshop to plan the future of trails within Lake Tahoe Nevada State Park. All trail users are encouraged to attend. The goal is to gather ideas and feedback based on the draft map.
The workshop will be on Thursday, June 7 from 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. at the Incline Golf Course Chateau located at 955 Fairway Boulevard in Incline Village. Staff from the Tahoe Rim Trail Association and the U.S. Forest Service will also be there to answer questions.

Tahoe Yellow Cress planted in partnership with high school, private business and conservation groups

A group of South Tahoe High School students joined Edgewood employees, conservation experts and officials on May 19 to plant new nursery grown stems of the threatened plant, Tahoe yellow cress on the beach at the Edgewood Tahoe Golf Course. Edgewood Companies is participating in a volunteer program called the Tahoe Yellow Cress Stewardship Program and has been assisting with inventory surveys as far back as 1979.

Report: parachutists in distress near Pope Beach

Two, possibly three people in parachutes reportedly in distress have been reported missing near Pope Beach in South Lake Tahoe this morning.

One parachutist may have been rescued from the water, according to initial reports.

South Lake Tahoe Fire and Rescue is looking for the parachutists who apparently landed on the water, and have positioned themselves at Pope Beach, Camp Richardson and the Tahoe Keys, according to police scanner traffic.

Rescue boats have also been launched.

The Tahoe Transportation District will host an Open House forum on Wed., May 16, to discuss the SR Highway 28 corridor safety and congestion issues. The forum will introduce the East Shore Express, a proposed shuttle from Incline Village to Sand Harbor Beach State Recreation Area this summer as well as updates on the North Demonstration Bikeway, a 3-mile off-road path between Incline Village and Sand Harbor.

Wow, what a closing we had on The Face for the last day at Heavenly. Pete Sonntag and Todd Rudis opened The Face from noon till 4:15 and we got our last jolly’s in before the annual parking lot party which by the way was one of the biggest I have seen in a long time.

Liquigas-Cannondale race team to train at Lake Tahoe for Amgen Tour of California Race

Professional road cycling teams continue to take note of Lake Tahoe as a premier outdoor biking destination.
The latest is Liquigas-Cannondale, a professional Italian racing team in the UCI ProTour, who will call North Lake Tahoe home Saturday, May 5 through Friday, May 11 to train for the upcoming Amgen Tour of California, an eight-stage race scheduled for May 13-20 and held throughout the state of California.

Public campground fees to increase by $2 at Lake Tahoe

Due to increased costs of doing business, fees at campgrounds operated by California Land Management on National Forest System lands in the Lake Tahoe Basin will rise by $2 this season.

Camping fees will increase at Fallen Leaf (now $30), Meeks Bay (now $25), William Kent (now $25), Kaspian (now $17) and Nevada Beach (now $30 for regular sites, $34 for premium sites) campgrounds. Even with the fee increase, CLM campgrounds are below the cost of privately operated campgrounds in the basin. The fees at Bayview Campground, beaches and day-use areas remain the same.

Comments sought on proposed West Shore Lake Tahoe campground project

The U.S. Forest Service Lake Tahoe Basin Management Unit is asking for public input on the Environmental Assessment prepared for the William Kent Best Management Practices (BMPs) Retrofit and Administrative Site Redevelopment project. The proposed project area is approximately 22 acres and is located one mile south of Tahoe City on the West Shore of Lake Tahoe and consists of the William Kent Campground, the William Kent administrative site, and the William Kent day-use beach area.

Washoe offers sacred name 'Tahnu Leweh' for Lakeview Commons in South Lake Tahoe

With the Washoe Tribe's offering and support of El Dorado County Supervisor Norma Santiago, a move is underway to rename Lakeview Commons Park at South Lake Tahoe in time for an official June 20 dedication.
Given its 6,000 year history, the Washoe Tribe has presented the name Tahnu Leweh (Pronounced Tah-New Lay-Way) which, in native language, means "all the people's place." It is a name the Tribe would like to gift to El Dorado County and South Lake Tahoe as a symbol of peace, prosperity and goodness, said Darrel Cruz, Culture and Language Director for the Washoe Tribe.

Two percent TOT funds Tahoe City project; future money for Kings Beach

The existing 2 percent Transient Occupancy Tax, which is up for renewal on the June 5, 2012 ballot, has funded a number of North Lake Tahoe public improvement projects and services since voters first authorized it in 1996.

The renewal, called Measure F, is not a tax increase and, if passed, would continue to be paid by lodging guests only via the TOT bed tax when they spend the night in North Lake Tahoe. North Lake Tahoe residents would not be taxed under Measure F.
