Lake Tahoe planning agency announces 2011 Best in The Basin award winners

Recognized for stewardship and care taken in the building and construction of developments around Lake Tahoe, the 22nd annual Best in the Basin awards were announced Tuesday by the Tahoe Regional Planning Agency.
The TRPA, which sets policy for development around Lake Tahoe, will recognize the winners, listed below, during the 2011 Best in the Basin awards presentation during the meeting of its Governing Board on Wednesday, Feb. 22 in Stateline. Go here for the agenda.

In-town public sled hills disappear

Though it is off the radar, sledding will always have its place as an all-ages family activity. And though there are plenty of places to sled and tube around the city limits of South Lake Tahoe, the last of the remaining free places in town have dried up.
And not for a lack of snow, either. Two sled and tube hill favorites have been removed from the public after recent projects leveled some of the property to make way for expansions.

League to Save Lake Tahoe drops lawsuit against city's general plan

The City of South Lake Tahoe and the League to Save Lake Tahoe (League) have entered into a Settlement Agreement in which the League agrees to drop its appeal of their lawsuit against the City regarding the General Plan Update (GPU) and the City agrees not to seek payment for legal fees.

Lake Tahoe Finance Director comes highly regarded says Douglas County Manager

After three nationwide searches Douglas County Manager Steve Mokrohisky found the person he wanted for the top finance job right in his own back yard. The pick was Christine Vuletich, the City of South Lake Tahoe's director of finance.
Vuletich has resigned to take the position in Douglas County offered to her this week by Mokrohisky, where she will serve as the assistant county manager/chief financial officer.

South Lake Tahoe's Director of Finance Christine Vuletich resigns; hired as Douglas County finance officer

The City of South Lake Tahoe's Director of Finance, Christine Vuletich, has resigned to take a position in Douglas County, where she will serve as the assistant county manager/chief financial officer. Her last day is Feb. 17.
Vuletich, who was hired in October 2004 as the director of finance, has been responsible for the overall operation and oversight of the city's finance department, and has served as primary financial advisor to the city council and city manager.

Noise complaints at SnowGlobe concert being addressed

The City of South Lake Tahoe Police Department has received complaints regarding the noise from the SnowGlobe Music Festival, which has tied up emergency phone lines. T.J. Maxx to open South Lake Tahoe store

City announces three new fire department shift commanders

The City of South Lake Tahoe is pleased to announce a promotional ceremony for three new Fire Department Shift Commanders will be held on Monday, November 21, 2011. The ceremony will take place at the City’s Administration Offices (South Lake Tahoe Airport) at 2:30 p.m. and is open to the public. Being promoted to Shift Commander are Jim Drennan, Rob Hembree and Dan Sullivan. In announcing the appointments, City Manager Tony O’Rourke said, “The three Commanders will have significant responsibilities and have demonstrated the capacity to carry them out. We are pleased to announce their promotions.”

Lakeview Commons Project Update Video

The Lakeview Commons Project, a partnership between the California Tahoe Conservancy and the City of South Lake Tahoe, spans the beach area that was once known to locals as El Dorado Beach.
