J.T. Snow, Marcus Allen and others to golf in 8th annual Gene Upshaw Classic

NFL Hall of Famers, former Major League Baseball players and other sports celebrities will gather July 17-18 to once again pay tribute to the former Oakland Raider at the 8th annual Gene Upshaw Memorial Golf Classic at the Schaffer’s Mill Golf & Lake Club in Truckee, Calif.
Upshaw, who often played in the Celebrity Golf Tournament in South Lake Tahoe, died of pancreatic cancer in 2008 at Tahoe Forest Hospital.

Truckee resident Daron Rahvles will stop by South Lake Tahoe's Bank of the West on Friday to celebrate the beginning of the second stop on the Rahvles Banzai Tour at Kirkwood.
Rahvles will be at the bank, located at 2161 Lake Tahoe Blvd, from 4:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. for a meet and greet,
The Rahlves' Banzai Tour is racing in it's purest form according to Rahvles' website. Big mountain freeride meets ski / boarder-cross action! The tour stops at Kirkwood on March 7 and 8, which is the second stop after February's Alpine Meadows. The final stop will March 14-15 at Sugar Bowl.

Two years ago, Travis Ganong contacted Daron Rahlves and asked for help.
Ganong, then 24, had long been considered a rising star in speed events (he won the downhill and super-G national titles in 2010), but he hadn't figured out how to translate his potential to World Cup results. After debuting on the circuit in 2009, it took him three years and 39 races to crack the top 10.

NFL Hall of Fame members Marcus Allen and Mike Haynes will join Cy Young winner Vida Blue and other sports stars at the 6th Annual Gene Upshaw Memorial Golf Classic at Gray's Crossing in Truckee July 13 to 14.
The tournament is held to pay tribute to Hall of Famer and former Oakland Raider and Lake Tahoe resident Gene Upshaw and raise funds for cancer programs and traumatic brain injuries. Upshaw golfed often at the American Century Celebrity Golf Tournament in South Lake Tahoe before his sudden death from pancreatic cancer in 2008, just 3 days after being diagnosed.

Gene Upshaw’s legacy has reached far beyond his stellar NFL playing career and his years as the leader of the NFL Players Association. It has touched a community in Truckee/North Lake Tahoe where a state of the art cancer center bears his name.
It's Not Just South Lake Tahoe Athletes Who Are Headed to the Olympics, Local Doctors are too!

There are more local additions to the U.S. Olympic team than the three South Lake Tahoe athletes who were named to the U.S. Olympic team. Two local doctors are also headed to Sochi for the winter games.
Terrence Orr, MD, and Jonathan Finnoff, DO, both physicians with Tahoe Orthopedics and Sports Medicine, will volunteer as team physicians at the 2014 Winter Olympics.

The snow forecast to hit the Lake Tahoe region during the next few days is expected to give the Tahoe Fund's Plate for Powder program a boost along with Sierra ski resorts and businesses. Drivers who purchase a California or Nevada Tahoe vehicle license plate will receive two free ski lift or Nordic tickets to the resort of their choice. Two of Lake Tahoe's most popular ski and snowboarding icons, Daron Rahlves and Jeremy Jones, have finished shooting public service ads this week for the nonprofit Tahoe Fund's Plate for Powder program. Rahlves and Jones donated their time for the California and Nevada Lake Tahoe specialty license plates program, which gives new Tahoe license plate buyers two free Alpine or Nordic ski tickets to their choice of 12 major Lake Tahoe-area ski resorts.
