This year is a big milestone in the history of the Freaker's Ball....40 years of fun and entertainment at a variety of South Shore locations since its inception. On Saturday, October 26, 2018 the Freaker's Ball will be held at MontBleu Resort & Spa starting at 9:00 p.m. The crowds continue to grow and the costumes continue to entertain.

The Beginning in 1978

The 38th Annual Freaker's Ball, Lake Tahoe’s largest, oldest and most extravagant Halloween party, brings the wild with a four-ring costume circus in the Convention Center, Opal Ultra Lounge and Blu Nightclub venues at MontBleu on Saturday, Oct. 29, 2016, at 8:00 p.m. Cost is $35 prior to Saturday, then $40 at the door if tickets are available. Costume contest with prizes.

On Friday, the Hard Rock Hotel and Casino holds the 2nd Annual Rockin’ Dead Halloween Bash inside Vinyl starting at 9:00 p.m. Tickets are $25. Costume contest with prizes.

The 2014 Fall Aging & Caregiver Series will be given for the next six weeks in South Lake Tahoe. This six week series of classes are designed to provide instruction and support for caregivers who are, or are planning to, care for a family member or friend age 60 or older.

All classes are held at the Lake Tahoe Resort Hotel (formerly Embassy Suites) from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. Participants must register by calling 530-621-6369 or 800-510-2020. Free in-Home respite is available to qualified caregivers. Pre-authorization is required for respite services.

Whole the Lake Tahoe Resort Hotel is undergoing $8 million dollars in renovations, the leadership of the hotel formerly known as "Embassy Suites" is also undergoing renovations.

The resort just celebrated a year of independence in April 2014 and is putting into place a management structure that throws away the corporate mold, and invests in the resort’s front line -- its staff.

This June, the South Lake Tahoe Community Blood Drive will celebrate its 48th year anniversary. The public is encouraged to donate blood and help save lives.

The community blood drive will take place on Monday, June 2 from 12:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. at the Lake Tahoe Resort Hotel, formerly the Embassy Suites, located at 4130 Lake Tahoe Boulevard in the first floor conference rooms. BloodSource hosts the blood drive and Barton Memorial Hospital Auxiliary sponsors the event.

Once a year the City Council of South Lake Tahoe has a joint meeting with the Board of Supervisors from both El Dorado and Douglas Counties. This year's meeting will be held on Monday, October 7 at the Lake Tahoe Resort Hotel (formerly Embassy Suites) beginning at 1:30 pm.

The agenda for the afternoon includes discussion of the Regional and Area Plans, the South Shore Recreation Plan, transportation and housing issues on the South Shore and will wrap up with discussion on shared resource opportunities in the area.

Barton Memorial Hospital Auxiliary will hold a Blood Drive Monday, April 1 from noon to 6 p.m. at the Embassy Suites (First Floor Ballroom, 4130 Lake Tahoe Blvd., South Lake Tahoe). Free Validated Parking, Embassy Suites Parking lot.

After more than 20 years at the South Shore, Embassy Suites Lake Tahoe - Hotel & Ski Resort is getting a new name.Starting next month the hotel will operate as an independent property, according...

The corporation that owns Embassy Suites Lake Tahoe – Hotel & Ski Resort announced today that as of April 1 the hotel will be operating as an independent property with a new management company. PHR Management, Inc., an affiliate of Ken Corporation, LTD., the Japan-based ownership group, will assume management of the hotel. Max Saito, vice president of PHR, said the company will retain the hotel’s 220 employees.

In the spirit of the TED talks that sparked a wildfire of communal knowledge and immediate action around "ideas worth spreading," the Tahoe Prosperity Center and TahoeChamber are holding a second economic forum March 5.

Business, government, education, transportation, recreation, and healthcare leaders will be sharing their plans, ideas and projects that are focused on economic revitalization on the South Shore. This forum is all about "connecting the dots" between projects that are moving Tahoe toward prosperity.

About 100 people circled through the Tallac Ballroom at Embassy Suites Lake Tahoe Wednesday to learn about and voice their opinions on the Highway 50/South Shore Community Revitalization Project, also known as the loop road.

Two US 50/South Shore Community Revitalization Project workshops are planned in the coming days. The first will be Tuesday, Oct. 30 from 5-7 p.m. at Lake Tahoe Community College, Aspen Room. Another meeting is planned for Nov. 7 from 1-3 p.m. at Embassy Suites Lake Tahoe, Tallac Ballroom.
The South Shore Community Revitalization Projection is being considered to promote increased safety, efficient traffic flow and environmental and visual improvements along Highway 50. For more information go here.

There seems to unfortunately be another important event scheduled on October 23rd 2012 at the same time as ours, the Tahoe Area Coordinating Council for the Disabled Meet and Greet. The event is the State of the South Shore Economy Public Forum at the Embassy Suites from 5 to 9 p.m.

The words recession and economy appear in local and national newspapers daily but rarely do we get an opportunity to delve into our local economy and understand what’s behind the numbers. Similarly, citizens don’t often have a chance to get engaged in economic revitalization concepts.

Winter was once-again the theme at the third annual Barton Foundation “Signature” Cocktail Contest on Thursday, September 13 at Riva Grill in South Lake Tahoe. The contest drew 177 attendees and grossed $5,900.30 for Barton Memorial Hospital’s Level III trauma center designation. Serving as the official “kick-off” of the four-day Festival of Trees & Lights to be held Thursday, November 29 through December 2 at MontBleu Resort Casino & Spa, the contest included mixologists [bartenders] from 10 restaurants around South Lake Tahoe.

For the second time in less than a year, Chesley Burnett "Sully" Sullenberger III will speak at Lake Tahoe, this time as a special guest speaker of the 2012 Lake in the Sky Air Show, Aug. 24-26 at the Lake Tahoe Airport.
Sullenberger gained fame when he successfully landed US Airways Flight 1549, which had been disabled by striking a flock of Canada geese, in the Hudson River off Manhattan, New York City, on January 15, 2009. All of the 155 passengers and crew aboard the aircraft survived.
