El Dorado County Sheriff: Teen steals grandma's guns, swaps for pot

El Dorado County sheriff's investigators say a 14-year-old boy traded his grandmother's guns for marijuana and they don't know who has the firearms now.

The boy, who is from Missouri but staying with his grandmother in Wilton (Sacramento County), took a sledgehammer to her safe, took her two guns inside, and drove off with her car Monday night, according to sheriff's Deputy Chris Stelz.

El Dorado County officials join SLT Police Chief Uhler in opposition of Prop 47

The list of people against California's Proposition 47 grew today with the addition of El Dorado County District Attorney Vern Pierson, Sheriff John D'Agostini and County Supervisors joining the fight against what has been touted "The Safe Neighborhood and Schools Act."

Prop 47: Safer schools and neighborhoods or 10,000 convicted felons on the streets?

Being touted as "The Safe Neighborhoods and Schools Act" by proponents, Proposition 47 will mandate misdemeanors instead of felonies for “non-serious, nonviolent crimes," unless the defendant has prior convictions for murder, rape, certain sex offenses or certain gun crimes.

The reason Prop 47 got this name is because a fund bearing it's name will be created by the estimated savings of $150M to $250M the state will receive by not having to prosecute crimes that would become misdemeanors.

Opinion: Thousands of deadly weapons on the streets of South Lake Tahoe

There are several thousand deadly weapons on the streets of South Lake Tahoe every day.

This may seem like a drastic statement and I want to explain it. I'm not talking about guns or metal clubs, I'm talking about cars.

Have you ever waited at the intersection of Highway 50 and Sierra Blvd? How many times has someone rushed into the intersection against a red light as you were moving with your green light?

"It ought to be celebrated by pomp and parade, with shows, games, sports, guns, bells, bonfires, and illuminations from one end of this continent to the other..."

Adams wrote of the country's celebration of America's independence on July 4.

South Lake Tahoe will have many of those activities for everyone to enjoy, including a parade!

New Year, New Set of Laws in California and Nevada

Police sketches past time of South Shore Lake Tahoe firefighter

In a world of aerial drones, stun guns and surveillance cameras, an electric eraser doesn’t seem like much of a crime-fighting tool.

For Leona Allen, a spokeswoman for Lake Valley Fire Protection District and certified composite sketch artist, the handheld device is a cherished part of a crime-fighting kit that includes pencils, a blending stump and a sketch pad.

Movie Review: '21 Jump Street' more basic teen fare but enough laughs to be a winner for all

The action-comedy film "21 Jump Street," currently playing at the Horizon Stadium at Stateline, Lake Tahoe, may seem a little familiar to those who saw the teen comedy "Project X" recently. And for good reason, the writer for both films was Michael Bacall. There's much of the same in both films, high school affairs drugs and teen mammoth parties.

Movie Review: Spielberg's 'War Horse' is a warm and bitter tale
