An exhibit for one of the world's most famous toys is in South Lake Tahoe right now. The LEGO Summer Brickation gives kids and families a chance to put their building skills to work.
LEGO's of all shapes and sizes fill the entire exhibit in Heavenly Village. If you're 10 years old, life doesn't get much better than this.
"Instead of having to drive down in California to go to LEGOLAND, we can just come here," says 10-year-old Griffin Howell.

A man found dead and hanging from a tree Friday in an apparent suicide may have been involved in a homicide being investigated since Wednesday, South Lake Tahoe authorities report.

The owners of two South Lake Tahoe businesses, Paradise Real Estate and Paradise Timeshare-Resale, have moved their offices to new locations at The Shops at Heavenly Village in South Lake Tahoe. Dan Spano, the owner/broker of Paradise Real Estate and Carl Thoms, the owner/broker of Paradise Timeshare Resale have moved into Suites 36C and 37, respectively, in between the Heavenly Village Cinema and the new Lakefront Wedding & Events office and adjacent to the miniature golf course.

While many of the details remain unknown, the long-floated concept of a loop road directing U.S. Highway 50 around the back of Heavenly Village and South Shore casinos took a tongue-lashing Tuesday night.

With the theme "your home, your responsibility" the third Lake Tahoe Basin Wildfire Awareness Week begins Saturday, May 26 and will continue through June 3. The focus of the week is to promote homeowner and resident actions that reduce the risk from wildfire to homes and communities.

The blockbuster film "The Hunger Games," now at the Heavenly Village Cinema in South Lake Tahoe, is an entertaining sci-fi film that has broken box-office records nationwide. Its chief virtue is the star, Jennifer Lawrence, as Katniss Everdeen, who lives with her widowed mother and younger sister Primrose Everdeen (Willow Shields). They are in district 12 of the world government which has replaced all others worldwide following a disastrous world war.

The film "The Vow," currently on view at the Heavenly Village Cinema in South Lake Tahoe, is a good bad film. The bad is the sweetness-loaded script and the apparently rock-dumb male lead, Channing Tatum, as Leo Collins. The good is co-star Rachel McAdams as Paige Collins. This is billed as a romantic comedy, ideal as a "date" outing. Maybe, but ...

Movie opens with a brief scene of now and then goes back to five years earlier when Paige and Leo exchanged vows in a yuppie-like wedding. Thus, "The Vow."

The action-thriller film "The Grey," currently on view at the Heavenly Village Cinema in South Lake Tahoe, is a stark story of men in wilderness and their efforts to survive. Liam Neeson is the de facto leader after a jet carrying oil field workers crashes in the Alaskan wilderness. It is directed by Joe Carnahan, who also directed 2006's "Smokin' Aces" which was set at South Lake Tahoe and filmed inside MontBleu Resort Casino & Spa.

Winter weather continues through today in the Lake Tahoe Basin. Ski resorts report up to 2 feet of snow from the system which arrived Friday and continues today. The National Weather Service in Reno reports that a second and much colder storm will move into the area on Sunday into Monday, dropping temperatures and bringing more snow. "The Sitter," billed as a black comedy and currently flickering at Heavenly Village Cinema at South Shore Lake Tahoe, is mercifully only 81 minutes long, but that's long enough to spell disaster to any discriminating movie goer.

It stars comic actor Jonah Hill as college failure Noah forced into baby sitting three of the most repellent child actors in living memory. He is also pursuing a blonde who is suggesting intimacy that night.

Sometimes watching a dreck movie and enjoying it can be embarrassing. Such is the case with "New Year's Eve," a multifaceted comedy of sorts playing at the Heavenly Village Cinema. The cast is all-star, from Hilary Swank to Robert De Niro. And while the film is pure twaddle, director Gary Marshall keeps all the balls in the air. And he should be able to; he made the same movie last year on a Valentine's Day theme.

It will be double-trouble for South Lake Tahoe motorists over the next few weeks, as roadwork is expected to cause delays on the city's two main thoroughfares.
On Sept. 14, Caltrans began working around-the-clock on its $40.6 million Highway 50 project within the city. Crews are grinding and paving the road between Fremont Avenue and Trout Creek. Lane closures are planned between 7 a.m. and 7 p.m., with traffic diverted to the eastbound lanes during paving of the westbound lanes, and vice versa. Motorists can expect up to 10-minute delays.

LAKE TAHOE — If another La Nina visits the Sierra this winter – all-time records were approached in 2010-11 with more than 700 inches of snow – Tahoe South ski resorts are ready to roll on another epic season.
