Prescribed Fire Operations Continue This Week on the Lake Tahoe West Shore

U.S. Forest Service fuels management crews will begin prescribed fire operations south of Homewood on the West Shore of Lake Tahoe on Monday, December 9, 2013. Crews will burn approximately five to 10 acres per day on the south side of Meeks Meadow near Meeks Bay Avenue. Weather and conditions permitting, operations will continue through the week and possibly the weekend. In addition, operations will continue on lower Kingsbury Grade near Meadow Lane. Crews have completed five acres and will continue to burn until they complete the 19 acre unit.

Prescribed Burns in South Lake Tahoe Resume Wednesday

There will be prescribed fire operations on Kingsbury Grade and at Emerald Bay resume on Wednesday, December 4. The U.S. Forest Service fuels management team announced that crews will burn about 10 acres per day on Lower Kingsbury near Meadow Lane, weather permitting. Operations are expected to continue through the weekend. In the Emerald Bay area near Inspiration Point, crews will burn approximately three acres over one or two days.

Kingsbury Grade Crash Sends 4 to Hospital

11-4-13 update 12 pm: The Nevada Highway Patrol has released more information on Friday's 2 car accident on Kingsbury Grade. The occupants of the Yaris were the driver Dora Aranda, 27 of Azusa, CA, Christopher Ashlock, 23 of San Diego, CA and Melissa Dominguez, 28 of Rialto, CA. Zephyr Cove resident Donna Janaczek, 59, was the driver of the Subaru which was hit by Aranda as she apparently tried to over correct her car's drifting over the right roadway edge, causing her to cross the center line.

Mother bear and cub set free in foothills above Kingsbury Grade

Two Sierra Nevada black bears, a mother and her cub, were released in the foothills in Douglas County near Kingsbury Grade Thursday night after being caught by Nevada Division of Wildlife officials earlier that morning.

Happy Hour Ca$h Mob Generates Additional Revenue for Members

TahoeChamber’s “Ca$h Mob” series have been successful in their mission to support local businesses and keep money on the hill. Yesterday’s Happy Hour Mob was no exception.

Power outage affects upper Kingsbury grade homes

UPDATE 11:35AM: NV Energy crews found the source of the outage on Upper Kingsbury, an underground cable failure on Quaking Aspen.

Crews are replacing the bad section of cable, which may take approximately three hours (as of 11 a.m.). The crews restored power to some of the affected customers by switching to alternate electrical circuits. However, approximately 60 customers in the neighborhood will not have their service restored until repairs are completed.

New bicycle path part of plan to connect all of Lake Tahoe with trails

A one-mile section of new multi-use path at Stateline, Nev., near the South Shore casinos, was unveiled to the public Thursday, June 20, 2013, marking the beginning of what will eventually become a system of trails that circumnavigates the lake.

Kingsbury Grade now open for traffic; cause of fire under investigation

UPDATE 8:02PM: State Route 207 Kingsbury Grade is now open to motorists with controls. Please use caution around firefighters and equipment that remain working the fire.

Fire personnel will remain on scene to gain further containment of this fire. The cause of this fire is still under investigation.

UPDATE: 7:17PM: Around 200 firefighters remain on scene tonight on the Kings fire on the Carson Valley side of Kingsbury Grade near Lake Tahoe. The fire is approximately 4 to 5 acres in size, Douglas County authorities report. Containment is estimated by 8 p.m.

NV Energy reports 266 customers remain without power in Upper Kingsbury area

UPDATE 1:15PM: About 266 customers remain without power Sunday afternoon in the area of Upper Kingsbury Grade, NV Energy confirmed.

Earlier there were approximately 1,300 customers without power in areas that extended to Bigler Court, Boulder Court, Quaking Aspen and Ridge Club Drive.

A NV Energy spokesman said crews were able to make some switching of power cables to get most of the customers back.
It was not determined as of 1:15 p.m. when full power would be restored to the remaining 266 customers.

Power fully restored to all NV Energy customers at South Shore Lake Tahoe area

UPDATE: Power was fully restored to the Kingsbury Grade area at around 2:50 p.m., said NV Energy spokesman Karl Walquist. A blackout earlier this morning affected about 5,00 Lake Tahoe customers from Stateline to Cave Rock and both upper and Lower Kingsbury Grade.

UPDATE: Most NV Energy customers in the Stateline and Zephyr Cove areas are back online this morning but about 500 customers in the lower Kingsbury Grade area continue to be without power as of 10:30 a.m., according to NV Energy spokesman Karl Walquist.
The areas affected are from Pony Express to the intersection of Highway 50, Walquist said. The Round Hill substation remains without power and crews have been able to route specific areas to get most of the customers back on line. Power went out at around 5:30 this morning to about 5,000 customers.
It remains unknown at this time what caused the blackout.

Woman dies in Douglas County accident near valley side of Kingsbury Grade intersection

A Carson City woman died on Saturday in a single vehicle rollover accident on State Route 207 in Douglas County, the Nevada Highway Patrol reports.
Lynette Lucille Cieri, 63, died of injuries sustained in the accident. She was not wearing a seat belt.
The accident was reported at 5:20 p.m. at State Route 207 and Mottsville Lane. The preliminary investigation indicates a 1995 light green Jeep Grand Cherokee was traveling westbound on Mottsville Lane. For an unknown reason, the Jeep entered the north dirt shoulder of Mottsville Lane before re-entering the westbound lane.

The Nevada Highway Patrol, Tahoe Douglas fire and Carson City EMT personnel responded Saturday to a motorcycle crash with injuries on Spooner Summit. The accident happened in the eastbound lane and was reported at 5:22 p.m. Motorists can expect delays. I know because we were there for each and every one of those 10 memorable days that resulted in the very first Nevada 10-in-10 Challenge going into the Nevada record book.

Residents and visitors can expect to see smoke from this prescribed fire project area. The Forest Service strives to minimize the impacts of smoke on local communities.
