A GOOD MOTIVATION MONDAY TO GET OUT ON THE MOUNTAIN AND ENJOY PRE-HOLIDAY SEASON TURNS… A BREAK IN WEATHER TODAY AND MORE COMING THRU STARTING TOMORROW WITH A WINTER STORM WATCH POSTED.

TODAY’S WEATHER (NWS GREATER LAKE TAHOE AREA): Mostly Cloudy. Highs: 41F to 46F. Southwest winds 10 to 15 mph. Ridge gusts up to 60 mph.

Even though the storm hitting Lake Tahoe this weekend is a wet one, snow levels will fluctuate between 6500 and 8000 feet. Flooding near rivers and streams is already being seen in many areas. Some area passes have been snow covered, including Mt. Rose, Brockway, Echo, Spooner, and Kingsbury Summits. Additional snow amounts of 6 to 10 inches are possible for elevations above 8000 feet, with several inches of snow down to 7000 feet.

As of 10:00 a.m., chain controls are up on Echo Summit, Spooner Summit, Kingsbury Grade, Brockway Summit.

There is a full schedule of activites on the South Shore this weekend, plenty to do for the younger set as well as adults. Busy Santa can be found all over town!

Vail Resorts has called on the United States Congress to approve the Lake Tahoe Restoration Act of 2015. This Act provides $415 million in funding and reauthorizes important Lake Tahoe restoration activities that began in 1997 and refocuses federal, state and local efforts toward reducing wildfire threats, improving water quality and clarity, and combating invasive species. All of these are important to the local economy at one of the most visited lakes in the world.

Shaping up to be a great day for early season turns. Cold temps are allowing resorts to continue to make snow and open more lifts and runs. Ski and ride with care!

TODAY’S WEATHER: Expect Partly Cloudy Skies with Highs 32F-37F (22F-27F on the Slopes) with East Winds around 10mph & possible Ridge Gusts up to 60mph.
TONIGHT: Partly Cloudy then Clearing with overnight Lows 8F to 18F. East winds around 10 mph shifting to SW up to 10mph after midnight.

As people starts to dig out from an overnight storm, holiday travelers will be heading home while others hit the slopes. Expect traffic to be slow over Echo Summit.

Heavenly Mountain Resort: 9" of snow in the last 24 hours. The resort will have 1 percent of the mountain open: 35/4800 acres, 5/28 lifts open, 5/97 runs open.

Kirkwood: 14" of snow in the last 24 hours. The resort will have 3 percent of their terrain open: 60/2300 acres, 3/15 lifts and 6/86 runs.

Sierra at Tahoe: 16" (base) to 24"(summit) of snow in the last 24 hours. They will have 4 lifts and 3 trails open.

Sierra-at-Tahoe Resort announced today that they will be opening for the season on Saturday, November 26. There are early season condition on limited terrain with two chairlifts and two surface lifts in operation. Sierra will spin Easy Rider Express and Rock Garden with access to Broadway and Echo beginner trails. There will be a terrain park with small to medium features, allowing guests to get their park legs back underneath them. For now, their hours of operations are 8:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.

An “awesome group” from Kirkwood Mountain Resort’s Food and Beverage department was on hand on Monday, November 7 to donate their time at Kirkwood’s Adopt A Day Sponsorship.

“We want to start off by thanking Bread & Broth for giving us the opportunity of giving back to the community,” wrote Jamie Welch on behalf of her fellow sponsor crew members. “While some of us are from out of town, we appreciate the hospitality Lake Tahoe’s community members have shown us. This has been a heartwarming experience and we hope to help again in the future.”

1:30 pm update 11/15/26 - Many of the Lake Tahoe area ski resorts updated their opening dates today. Heavenly and Northstar will now open on Wednesday, November 23, Kirkwood and Sierra-at-Tahoe dates have yet to be determined.

The lower elevations around Lake Tahoe have seen some snow over the past month, but nothing that stayed longer than a few hours, but the scene up on the slopes is much different.

Bread & Broth provides its ‘Monday Meal’ at St. Theresa Grace Hall thanks to the generous sponsors who host an Adopt A Day of Nourishment by donating $250 which feeds anywhere from 75 to 110 hungry folks who come for a nourishing dinner. B&B’s Adopt A Day program was established in 2009 and is a way for individuals, organizations, churches and businesses to not only donate funding for the food, utilities and dinner supplies but provides ‘hands on’ participation volunteering at the sponsorship’s designated dinner.

The popular “Plates for Powder” program and offers skiers and boarders two free lift tickets at one of ten resorts in Lake Tahoe if they purchase the new Lake Tahoe license plate in either California or Nevada.

“The mountains are covered in white from this weekend’s storm signaling that ski season is almost here,” said Amy Berry, CEO of the Tahoe Fund. “Get ready to ski at one of the 10 resorts in Tahoe who generously support this great program by purchasing your new California or Nevada Tahoe plate today.”
