TODAY’S WEATHER (NWS GREATER LAKE TAHOE AREA): Expect Mostly Cloudy in the morning then becoming partly cloudy. Highs: 40F to 45F. Light winds becoming southwest up to 10 mph in the afternoon.

TONIGHT: Partly Cloudy in the evening then becoming Mostly Cloudy. Lows: 25F to 35F. Southwest winds 10 to 15 mph. Gusts up to 35 mph after midnight. Ridge gusts up to 60 mph.

FRIDAY: Snow. Snow accumulation of 2 to 10 inches…with 4 to 14 inches above 7000 feet. Highs: 34F to 39F. Southwest winds 15 to 25 mph with gusts up to 45 mph. Ridge gusts up to 100 mph.

TIMING: SNOW WILL MOVE INTO THE TAHOE BASIN FRIDAY MORNING WITH PERIODS OF HEAVY SNOW FRIDAY AFTERNOON THROUGH MIDDAY SATURDAY.

SNOW ACCUMULATIONS: 1 TO 2 FEET ABOVE 7000 FEET, WITH LOCALLY HIGHER AMOUNTS ALONG THE SIERRA CREST. 8 TO 16 INCHES AT LAKE LEVEL.

WINDS: SOUTHWEST 15 TO 25 MPH WITH GUSTS TO 40 MPH. SIERRA RIDGE GUSTS UP TO 100 MPH.

IMPACTS: VERY POOR VISIBILITY WITH WHITEOUT CONDITIONS LIKELY ESPECIALLY OVER THE PASSES. DANGEROUS CONDITIONS FOR BACK COUNTRY ACTIVITIES AND TRAVEL ON HIGHWAYS 50, 88, 89, 207, 267, MT ROSE HIGHWAY AND INTERSTATE 80.

NOW IS THE TIME TO PREPARE AN EMERGENCY KIT FOR YOUR HOME AND CAR. IF TRAVELING CONSIDER SHIFTING YOUR PLANS TO BEFORE THE STORM ARRIVES ON FRIDAY OR WAITING UNTIL THE STORM PASSES. SURFACE CONDITIONS: Surface Conditions are Variable with a mixture of Machine Groomed & Skier-Rider Packed Snow and Some Areas of Firm Packed Snow.

SAFETY MESSAGE: Stay on designated Opened Trails only. Keep an eye out for marked and unmarked obstacles. Slow Down and observe safety signs on trails with high concentration of skiers and riders… Know the Code! Always stay in control. Be able to avoid objects and people in your Path! Please stop to side of the run where it is safe and always check uphill for skiers and riders before restarting down hill.
