A huge thank you to all those that came out and supported South Lake Tahoe Rotary’s recent fundraiser at Lake Tahoe Golf Course. Kevin Sommerfeld, Kelly Higgins and the whole support crew at the golf course were great hosts at their newly renovated clubhouse.

The cast of “Divorce Southern Style” put on 6 great performances and dedicated many hours to this very funny play. The show and set were a success because of their help in creating and attaining set props and pieces.

If you had walked onto the LTCC campus on Tuesday, April 3, you would have never guessed that there were 325 6th grade youth and 220 agency and volunteer workers throughout the corridors, all learning information on how and why to keep themselves safe from drugs. “Choices, what are yours?” was the theme of our efforts in keeping our youth drug free. With the country’s attitudes and norms about drug use changing, times are even more difficult for our kids.

The local Tahoe Douglas Elks Lodge #2670 has been an ongoing sponsor for Bread & Broth’s Adopt A Day of Nourishment (AAD) and generously hosts two to three sponsorship dinners annually. Their most current AAD sponsorship was at Bread and Broth’s (B&B) Monday Meal on March 12, and thanks to their sponsorship, B&B fed 84 dinner guests a ‘home style’ meatloaf dinner served with mashed potatoes with gray, broccoli and a green salad lovingly cooked and prepared by the B&B’s wonderful volunteer cooks.

The Soroptimist international of Tahoe Sierra (SITS) organization has a long history of service to the community. This wonderful group of women chose to sponsor a Bread & Broth Adopt A Day of Nourishment on Monday, March 5th, as their continuing commitment to serve those in need. The SITS members representing their organization at their sponsorship dinner were Jean Bergner, Julie Nelson, Shelly Martinez, Carolyn Robinson and Joanne Shope and Wendy David, B&B Volunteer Team #1 lead cook.

Bread & Broth really appreciates the support the Tahoe Douglas Rotary Club has been giving our Adopt-A-Day of Nourishment (AAD) program. The Rotary Club signed up for five Adopt-A-Days and on February 5, they sent another great team to volunteer while hosting their fourth AAD in the past seven months. Representing the Rotary Club at the Monday Meal dinner were Rotarians Linda Bellotti, Keith Endlich, Bob Fehskens, Greg Felton, Roberta Stillwell and Brian Williams.

Returning for his second Adopt a Day of Nourishment sponsorship of the year, Jeremy Woodford hosted Bread & Broth’s Monday Meal on January 15th. Jeremy returned with Barbara and Craig Brittain who also volunteered at Jeremy’s January 1st sponsorship. This trio of helpers assisted the B&B volunteers in serving the 76 dinner guests who came to St. Theresa Grace Hall for a hot, nutritious meal. At the Mexican themed dinner, the diners had a choice of beef enchiladas, pork enchiladas, refried beans, festive veggies, green salad, fruit salad and a varies of pies, cookies and cakes for dessert.

As a young boy, Jeremy Woodford would attend Bread & Broth’s dinners with his family at Grace Hall. Now, many years later, Jeremy is “paying it forward” by hosting three B&B dinners so that others can also benefit from the same nourishing meals that helped him when he and his family were experiencing difficult times.

With funds provided by Vail’s EpicPromise grants, Heavenly Mountain Resort partners with Bread & Broth to annually host six Monday Meal dinners at St. Theresa Grace Hall. Every other month, Heavenly sponsors an “Adopt A Day of Nourishment” and sends a team of volunteers to help crew at their sponsorship dinner On. December 11th, hosting their last AAD of the year, Heavenly’s volunteer sponsor crew was manned by Michelle Beall, Kelly Campbell, Chris Eckert, Katie Ficeto and Frank Papandrea.

The South Lake Tahoe Cancer League would like to thank Sage Alexander and Sophia Lamore from the advanced art class of Candy Lincoln at South Tahoe High School for their holiday window painting at their seasonal See's Candy store.

Tahoe Coalition for the Homeless is grateful to the Sierra Health Foundation for awarding a grant of $15,000 for the operation of the South Lake Tahoe Warm Room in 2017-2018. The Sierra Health Foundation is an independent foundation committed to supporting health-related activities in Northern California. The South Lake Tahoe Warm Room is an overnight emergency shelter that operates only during the winter months in our community.

The City of South Lake Tahoe Recreation Services Team would like to extend our sincerest gratitude to local resident Greg Siomiak for volunteering to add some sparkle to our pickle ball courts. Greg has been instrumental in the addition of pickle ball to the recreation complex amenities and helping us keep the courts in the best possible condition. Recently Greg dedicated several hours to re-stripe the pickle ball courts and they look fabulous!

On behalf of the Recreation Services Team and all of those who enjoy pickle ball we thank you Greg for your time and service to the community.

To volunteer to help others is a selfless act that is both humbling and uplifting. Thanks to Vail’s generous EpicPromise grant, Kirkwood Mountain Resort employees had the opportunity to volunteer at Bread & Broth’s November 6 Monday Meal through B&B’s ‘Adopt A Day of Nourishment' program. Kirkwood Security Officers Mark DeSacia, Rick Hofheins and Charlie Noury and David McCullers, Security Manager, all volunteered their time and effort to make a difference in the lives of those attending the meal served at Grace Hall.

HEROs, the employee organization at Harrah’s/Harveys’ Casino Resorts, hosted Bread & Broth’s Monday Meal on October 30 through their sponsorship of an ‘Adopt A Day of Nourishment’. B&B’s Adopt A Day program provides individuals, businesses and organizations the opportunity to participate in hosting a hot and filling meal which provides nourishment and a welcoming and safe environment to any community member who attends a Monday Meal at St. Theresa Grace Hall.

“It is a great feeling to know I work for a company that enjoys giving back to the community,” commented Chris Barbar. Barbar is the assistant manager for Ticket Sales at Heavenly Mountain Resort and on October 23, through Heavenly’s Adopt A Day of Nourishment sponsorship, Chris spent another Monday helping Bread & Broth volunteers feed a tasty and filling spaghetti dinner to the evening’s 95 dinner guests.

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. – Thank you to our community of supporters for making the 2017 Homebrew for the Homeless a successful fundraiser! The Tahoe Coalition for the Homeless event at the DDRC Ranch was supported by over 60 individual and business sponsors. A special cheers to major donors: Hops Envy, Reliapro Painters, darke. Marketing, Tahoe Mountain Lab, Law Office of Scott Weavil, The Heatherton Agency, Barmhouse, Tahoe Best Friends, Tiffany Hetherton Grimes of Chase International, and South Tahoe Association of Realtors. This year’s event raised a record amount of donations.

The Board of Directors and membership of St. Joseph Community Land Trust wishes to extend a heartfelt thank you to the PFUND Family Foundation for its generous gift of $5,000. This donation will assist us considerably in our mission to help provide affordable housing and to improve the quality of life for residents of the Lake Tahoe Basin.The continued support of the PFUND Family Foundation over the years is very much appreciated.

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - There weren't just hungry customers at IHOP in South Lake Tahoe Saturday morning, a hungry bear also decided to stop by.

The large bear got into the dumpster around 8:00 a.m. as staff was taking trash out on October 14, but once in he couldn't get out.

As an all volunteer, non-profit organization, Bread & Broth greatly values the many partnerships that have developed over the 28 years that it was been feeding the needy in the Lake Tahoe South Shore community. These partnerships involve volunteering, donating food and funds and sponsoring Monday Meal Adopt A Day of Nourishment dinners.

On Tuesday, a majority of city council agreed on a revised VHR (Vacation Home Rental) ordinance. In two weeks we will vote on the first reading of the ordinance and if a majority supports it, on November 7th would be the final vote to adopt the revised regulations and rules. The ordinance would then go into effect 30 days later.

The Tahoe Women's Community Fund (TWCF) would like to thank all the community members who came out last Wednesday for the Modern Family Premiere in support of local families! With a fun filled evening of raffle prizes, popcorn, and good company, 150 locals raised almost $6,000 for local families. These funds will go into the 2018 grant cycle of the TWCF and will be open for any eligible non-profit to apply for.

Choices for Children of South Lake Tahoe would like to thank the Getaway Cafe of Meyers for their support on September 19, 2017.

They prepared delicious meals for those in Lake Tahoe’s early care and education field who were attending Choices for Children's Strengthening Families evening training on 'Children’s Social and Emotional Competence.'

Child care providers work long hours and are required to attend professional growth education to keep up with the field. A special "Thank You" to Diane for providing them with diner. It was very much appreciated.

The South Lake Tahoe Library just wrapped up our Summer Reading Challenge, which encouraged children, teens, and adults to read all summer long. Over 300 patrons registered, logging a total of 3,990 books, and earning a total of 1,055 prizes! We would like to thank the many businesses and organizations that donated prizes and funds.

“Here at Liberty, one of our core values is community. We are all part of this community and enjoy participating by giving back whenever we can.” This was the collaborative comment given by the sponsor crew members from the Adopt A Day of Nourishment host Liberty Utilities at their sponsorship dinner on August 21. Representing Liberty Utilities were team members Theresa Faegre, James Martin and Kelsey Zieba who had a fun time serving the Solar Eclipse themed dinner proved by Bread & Broth’s creative and talented cooks.

The Tahoe-Douglas Rotary Club is partnering with Bread & Broth by hosting five Adopt A Day of Nourishment sponsorships over the next ten months.

“The Tahoe-Douglas Club is happy to support Bread & Broth’s wonderful program and looks forward to a strong relationship with B&B and its fantastic volunteers,” commented Ashley Colvin, Tahoe Douglas Rotary Club President.
