South Lake Tahoe police arrest parolee after multiple attempts to escape; Search on for second man

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - A 25-year-old South Lake Tahoe man has been arrested on multiple charges after he tried to escape police custody twice on Tuesday, February 4, 2020. Christopher Hendrickson has been arrested on charges of resisting arrest, escape from custody, corporal injury to his spouse, willful cruelty to a child, forcible entry into a property and felony vandalism.

Placer County pulls out of A & A Lake Tahoe Inn deal

Placer County has made two attempts to buy lodging properties in South Lake Tahoe to give them needed tourist accommodation units (TAUs) for future redevelopment projects in the North Lake Tahoe town centers of Kings Beach and Tahoe City.

The county had offered the owners of the A & A motel $1.425 million for their property at 3520 Lake Tahoe Blvd. After demolishing the motel, the county would have restored the land beneath, earning a bonus ratio of three-to-one TAUs from the Tahoe Regional Planning Agency, so the motel's 34 units would have been worth 102 to Placer County.

Lisa Maloff donates $141,000 for new South Lake Tahoe Police K9

Lisa Maloff has recently donated millions of dollars to the South Lake Tahoe community to help at the community college, hospital and other needed areas. She was honored during Tuesday's City Council meeting for her recent donation to purchase and train Ricci, the Police Department's newest K9 officer.

$10 million gift presented for Barton Wellness and Sports Performance Center

South Lake Tahoe resident Lisa Maloff presented a $10 million check to the Barton Foundation on Wednesday night for the building of the Robert Maloff Center of Excellence. The donation was made in memory of her husband Robert, who co-owned and operated the Lake Tahoe Inn and Timber Cove Lodge.

Barton receives $10 million donation to build a sports and wellness center

Just a few months after she donated $5 million to Lake Tahoe Community College, Lisa Maloff has made another large donation in honor of her late husband, Robert Maloff.

Barton Memorial Hospital is the latest recipient of Maloff's generosity. She made a $10 million gift to fund the building of a health and sports performance center on the Barton Memorial Hospital campus. The new center will be called the Robert Maloff Center of Excellence.

Placer County buying South Lake Tahoe motel; Demolition planned

South Lake Tahoe may soon be one less aging motel along the main stretch in town. On Tuesday, the Placer County supervisors gave staff the go ahead to purchase the A & A Lake Tahoe Inn for $1.425 million. The county wants to have the motel's 34 tourist accommodation units (TAUs) so they can add hotel rooms at the north end of Lake Tahoe.

The south shore motel rests in a stream sensitive zone. If the purchase goes through, Placer County would give the motel to the California Conservancy for demolition and restoration while keeping the TAUs.

Placer County backs away from hotel conflict with South Lake Tahoe

Placer County officials have backed away from a land-use battle with the city of South Lake Tahoe. But they're moving ahead with the larger effort aimed at allowing development of a hotel on the north side of the lake for the first time since 1959.

Potential hotel development swap causing ire around Lake Tahoe

There may be a duel this winter over hotel rooms around Lake Tahoe.

Placer County is interested in paying about $3.7 million to buy hotels from private owners and demolish them in the city of South Lake Tahoe, which is in El Dorado County.

South Lake Tahoe doesn't want to lose the hotels, along with the important associated sales and room taxes.

Placer County wants the hotels so it can open development of new lodging along Placer County's north shore of Lake Tahoe, which hasn't had a new hotel built since 1959.

South Lake Tahoe Man Arrested in Shooting

A shooting Wednesday in the Bijou area of South Lake Tahoe led to the arrest of 22 year old Angelo Anderson.

Police officers responded to multiple reports of a man discharging shots at a moving vehicle as it traveled on Fawn Way, which is located between Highway 50 and Glenwood Way.
