Letter to the Editor: South Tahoe Youth climate group endorses Scott Robbins and John Friedrich for city council

At this point in time, the intersection between equity and climate change has never been clearer. The Sunrise Movement is a national youth climate group that is seeking a future that’s not only sustainable, but also just. With only 11 years left to transform our economy away from fossil fuels to avoid the worst effects of climate change, we need to elect officials now who will defend our future. The remedies for unsustainable practices must work for everyone in this city. That’s why we’re endorsing John Friedrich and Scott Robbins for the city council of South Lake Tahoe.

First up is Wendy David, the current mayor of South Lake Tahoe. She is seeking a second term on the Council.
Douglas County School Board turns down $100k request from buyer of KMS

During their meeting Tuesday, the Douglas County School District Board of Trustees turned down a request by the buyer of Kingsbury Middle School (KMS) for almost $100,000 to be spent on a environmental impact study of the planned development of the South Shore property.
Supervisor Novasel forming group to address housing needs in South Lake Tahoe

Housing, or lack thereof, has been a hot topic in recent years in South Lake Tahoe and the surrounding South Shore communities. A recent town hall forum on housing issues was recently held, and there will soon be a housing task force organized by El Dorado County Supervisor Sue Novasel.
During the supervisor's October 25 meeting, Novasel is asking for $15,000 to engage a consultant to lead task force members through six sessions addressing the problem.
Kingsbury Middle School sold to Glenbrook company

The Douglas County School District has found a buyer for the old Kingsbury Middle School which had been on the market since 2012. The school board voted to accept a $3.15 million offer on the property from Lake Parkway LLC, a corporation listed in Zephyr Cove, Nev.
DCSD closed Kingsbury Middle School on 1900 Echo Drive in Stateline in the 2008-2009 school year due to low enrollment at the schools at the lake. The school site had an original price tag of $4 million.
"This is wonderful news," said DCSD Board President Ross Chichester.
Electrical short at South Lake Tahoe motel causes early morning fire

The cause is still under investigation as to why a mattress caught on fire Friday morning, sending two people to Barton Hospital with minor injuries.
Just after 6:23 a.m. May 27, South Lake Tahoe Fire Rescue responded to the Sky Lake Lodge at 2644 Lake Tahoe Blvd. Once they arrived they found a mattress on fire.
Preliminary investigation shows an electrical short on or near the mattress caused the fire.
Public gets chance to ask questions about US50 Revitalization project

The public once again had the opportunity to participate in the planning of the US50/South Shore Revitalization plan (also known as the Loop Road) during a meeting held at South Tahoe Middle School Wednesday evening. About 100 people took advantage of having the opportunity.
A panel made up of three representatives from the project, Tahoe Transportation District's Carl Hasty and Russell Nygaard, and the Project Manager Mark Rayback from Woods Rodgers.
Taqueria Jalisco recognizes Tahoe Area Coordinating Council for the Disabled

Taqueria Jalisco in South Lake Tahoe will host lunch, dinner and recognize TACCD on Oct. 25. Taqueria Jalisco is located at 3097 Harrison Avenue behind Rojos.
October was chosen for the annual fundraising events to highlight October as Disability Awareness and Employment month.
