Proposal would bring new road, parking spaces to Lake Tahoe Tallac Historic Site
Submitted by Editor on Mon, 09/10/2012 - 3:45pmA new road and an intersection reconfiguration, more parking spaces and BMP water improvements are among some of the changes being proposed by the U.S. Forest Service at the Tallac Historic Site near South Lake Tahoe. Public comments are being taken until Oct. 1 for the proposed changes, which could get off the ground next year.

Wildland fire reported off of West Way near Emerald Bay Road in South Lake Tahoe
Submitted by Editor on Sun, 08/26/2012 - 5:04pmUPDATE 7:30PM: Firefighters and engines are being released from the West Way fire incident according to dispatch. Firefighters have been able to get a handle on the fire, said to be about a half acre that burned on U.S. Forest Service land.

South Lake Tahoe and Lake Valley have responded to a brush fire off of West Way near Highway 89 / Emerald Bay Road. A plume of smoke is visible in the area. The call came into dispatch at around 5:50 p.m. Forest Service firefighters are also on the scene and are scoping the area, said to be in a meadow.

Seasonal dog ban at Upper Truckee Marsh planned for late spring

The dog ban is meant to protect sensitive wildlife areas, including threatened and endangered species, during breeding season. The Upper Truckee Marsh provides critical breeding habitat. The dog ban begins May 1.
