Kudos: South Lake Tahoe Library thanks sponsors of Summer Reading Challenge
Submitted by paula on Wed, 09/05/2018 - 2:24pmThe South Lake Tahoe Library just wrapped up another great Summer Reading Challenge, which encourages children, teens and adults to read all summer long. Patrons at our library logged a total of 5,236 books and earned a total of 817 prizes! We would like to thank the businesses and organizations that donated prizes and funds to our program.
Prizes that children could choose from included gift certificates from Applebee’s Restaurant, Blue Dog Gourmet Pizza, Heavenly Village Cinema, McDonalds, and Modern Makers. Thank you to all of these businesses for their generous donations!
City of South Lake Tahoe to host cannabis workshop

After Tuesday's normally scheduled 9:00 a.m. meeting, they will move to the Tahoe Beach Retreat & Lodge for an evening Cannabis Workshop to discuss upcoming regulations concerning the sales of adult-use cannabis in South Lake Tahoe. They moved to the larger venue due to expected participation.
On February 20, from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., members of the public can give their input on what an ordinance concerning the sales of cannabis in city limits should look like. Besides council members there will also be representative of the Planning Commission and Cannabis Subcommittee.
South Lake Tahoe cannabis discussion to move to evening meeting
Submitted by paula on Tue, 02/06/2018 - 10:02pmThe Cannabis Community Committee gave a presentation to the South Lake Tahoe City Council Tuesday, outlining the work they've done and recommendations for the City's ordinance for cannabis sales.
Fifteen members of the community came together as the committee and met with Mayor Pro Tem Tom Davis, Councilwoman Brooke Laine, Police Chief Brian Uhler, City Attorney Nira Doherty and City Staff member Lisa Watson to discuss and research issues facing legal sales of cannabis in the city limits.
New McDonald's opens in South Lake Tahoe at the Y
Submitted by paula on Thu, 09/14/2017 - 5:37pmOn May 17, 2017, South Tahoe Now was at the demolition of the McDonald's at the "Y," and the builder said he'd have the project done and ready to open in 120 days.
Wednesday, September 13, the new 4,305 square foot building with its environmental improvements opened to the public at 11:30 a.m. That was 117 days since we saw old, 40-year-old building come down.
Inside, diners will see a sleek new design with automated ordering stations and plenty of seating.

We were successfully awarded $2.9 million in federal funds to complete all of the funding for the Sierra Blvd. Streetscape project-we are now 100% funded through construction. Demolition begins on South Lake Tahoe McDonald's
Submitted by paula on Wed, 05/17/2017 - 3:31pmDemolition began Wednesday on the 40-year-old McDonald's building at the Y, making way for a new building that will not only be home to a smaller and more efficient fast food restaurant, but one that is also full of environmental improvements as well as an new alpine-look consistent with the new City design standards.
Greenbelt plans for South Lake Tahoe unveiled, public asked to comment
Submitted by paula on Tue, 12/20/2016 - 9:18amNow that the Tahoe Valley Area Plan has been approved for the Y area of South Lake Tahoe, plans are moving forward to create a greenbelt area that would improve connectivity, create more biking, walking and play space, as well as implementing stormwater improvements to keep Tahoe blue, and the community green.
PlayPlace being removed during major McDonald's remodel

During Thursday's Planning Commission meeting, one of those projects was approved.

PCT hikers find comfort, supplies and angels in South Lake Tahoe
Submitted by paula on Sat, 07/30/2016 - 10:03pmWhat gained in popularity with the movie and book by Cheryl Strayed, "Wild," people are hiking the Pacific Crest Trail in record numbers, and many of them stop by South Lake Tahoe on their way from border to border.
To date, Lake of the Sky Outfitters at the South Lake Tahoe "Y" has seen about 650 of the PCT hikers stop by. Being the largest city near the 2,650 mile trail that takes most hikers about five months to complete, the community offers what many of them seek on "zero days": supplies, motels, a shower, lots of food and mail.
Free McDonald's Breakfast for Kids in South Lake Tahoe on Tuesday
Submitted by paula on Mon, 09/08/2014 - 4:01pmLocal students in grades kindergarten through eight grade can receive a free breakfast from either of the South Lake Tahoe McDonald's locations on Tuesday, September 9 from 6:30 a.m. to 9:30 a.m.
McDonald's in Northern California and Northern Nevada are helping children kick start their new school year with their healthy breakfast. Each student on Tuesday will receive an Egg White Delight McMuffin, apple slices and 1 percent low fat milk.
Students must be accompanied by an adult.
