Sound mitigation expert hired to use "smart sound" at SnowGlobe

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - Chad Donnelly, the CEO of the SnowGlobe Music Festival, was in South Lake Tahoe last week to show his new sound mitigation expert the venue at the Community Playfields on Al Tahoe Blvd. He also met with Mayor Pro Tem Tom Davis and three members of the No Globe Alliance, a citizen-formed group against the noise generated by the three-day outdoor festival, and Al Frangione of Lake Tahoe Community College.

City to add new sound monitoring for 2018 SnowGlobe

Sound levels from SnowGlobe have been a concern of many residents in South Lake Tahoe, and after a presentation at Tuesday's City Council meeting, new sound monitoring protocols will start this year.

After Recreation Superintendent Lauren Thomaselli gave the SnowGlobe Special Event Agreement Annual review, staff decided to perform the sound measurement for the 2018 festival in both A-Weighting and C-Weighting.

City working with promoter to keep SnowGlobe in South Lake Tahoe

Is SnowGlobe an event that should stay in South Lake Tahoe?

The answer is "yes" according to the City Council, but exactly how the future working and financial relationships between the City and SnowGlobe will look still needs to be worked out.

Chad Donnelly, founder of SnowGlobe, made a presentation at the SLT City Council meeting Tuesday, outlining a plan to keep the annual December 29-31 music festival in the community.

What started out twelve years ago as five friends in Lake Tahoe for a bachelor's party and a day of fun at American Century Championships (ACC) has morphed into an iconic event that has taken on a life of its own at Edgewood Tahoe's 7th hole.

“It's like Christmas and New Years on one day,“ explained one of the original five, John Parillo in describing the atmosphere at the hole on Thursdays of the tournament (the Celebrity Pro-Am day).

Major project in store for Kings Beach, public comment sought

Plans for an upgrade to the recreational facilities at Kings Beach State Recreation Area were unveiled during a public meeting last week. The project includes upgrades to the playground, restrooms, picnic areas, boat ramp and parking area, a relocation of the pier and the addition of an event area and stage, all over the next 20 years.

The California Department of Parks and Recreation (DPR) and the California Tahoe Conservancy (Conservancy) held the meeting to get public feedback, and for those unable to attend the comment/feedback period is available online until February 15, 2017.

First artist announced for South Lake Tahoe's summer concert series

Third Eye Blind will be celebrating their 20th Anniversary with Summer Gods Tour at Lake Tahoe Outdoor Arena at Harvey's on July 16, 2017. This is the first concert announced for the popular summer concerts.

Their supporting act(s) have not been announced.

Third Eye Blind will, for the first time in their storied history, play their debut album, considered one of the great rock records of all time, in its entirety, as part of a night of music including their latest, We Are Drugs. They are touring 31 cities as part of the the tour.

An estimated 15,000 tickets have been sold for the three-day event which is held on the South Lake Tahoe community's newly created ball fields.

Along with the fun though comes issues common at most music festivals: noise, trash, drinking and illegal drugs.

SnowGlobe extended until 2018; Promoter wants to bring three more events to town annually

The annual SnowGlobe Music Festival is here to stay, at least for now.

During Tuesday's South Lake Tahoe City Council meeting, promoter Chad Donnelly went before the elected officials, asking them for a three year extension of the annual festival until 2019 (though they would ultimately like a deal until 2027), and more money from the City to help with the costs of garbage pick-up and transportation for the three-day event which runs from December 29-31 each year.

What the City gave him was not quite what he was asking for as he got more cash, but less time.

Road to SnowGlobe: Three days of music for concertgoers and neighbors

Thousands of music fans will descend upon South Lake Tahoe this week for what has become the most popular outdoor winter music festivals in the country.

Thousands of people will be on hand December 27 through 31 to experience what is being billed as a fusion between music festival, winter expedition and New Year's Eve celebration.

Also promised is cold, with night time temperatures in the low teens. Appropriate clothing and outerwear is strongly encouraged.

Joseph Cosmos likes to fiddle around. Besides jamming with other musicians, the 34-year-old bluegrass aficionado (if that isn't too high falutin' a word for his musical genre of choice) and Tahoe native has set up a business in town making violins as well as providing restorations, repairs and set ups for all bow string instruments — violin, viola, cello and bass.
