Forest Service issues decision on proposed William Kent campground project

The proposed project now enters a 45-day decision appeal period.
Reno agrees to $30 million deal to refinance Aces ballpark project

In a 5-2 decision the Reno City Council on Wednesday approved restructuring the financial agreements amounting to about $30 million related to the Reno Aces baseball stadium project. Council Members Jenny Brekhus and Hillary Schieve opposed the plan.
Genoa Vista Trail Dedication Ceremony set for Saturday

A dedication ceremony of the new Genoa Vista Trail will be 10 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 26 at at the north end of the trail on Foothill Road across from Carson Street. The event is open to the public and participants are encouraged to walk or bike the 1.3 mile trail to 1862 David Walley’s Hot Springs Resort and Spa where refreshments will be served.
South Lake Tahoe City Council Makes Board Assignments for 2013

Mayor Tom Davis will serve on the following boards: California Tahoe Conservancy, City Selection Committee, TahoeChamber.org, Lake Tahoe Visitors Authority, and South Tahoe Chamber of Commerce.
Mayor Pro Tem Hal Cole will serve on El Dorado County LAFCO, Tahoe Regional Planning Agency, Abandoned Vehicle Abatement JPA, and South Tahoe Redevelopment Successor Agency boards.
Homewood lawsuit remanded back to TRPA on one issue
Submitted by Editor on Mon, 01/07/2013 - 7:28pmOn the question of whether the Homewood Mountain Ski Area Resort, a ski area on Lake Tahoe’s West Shore, can be revitalized, the U.S. District Court validated all of the Tahoe Regional Planning Agency’s environmental findings in the decision on the Sierra Club’s lawsuit challenging the project. The court remanded the case back to TRPA on one very limited issue concerning the adequacy of the economic analysis related to one of the alternatives studied, TRPA officials said.

Lake Tahoe Regional Plan Update approved

For the first time since 1987, Lake Tahoe has a new regional plan for development and land use.
Twelve of the 14 voting members of the Tahoe Regional Planning Agency's governing board voted in favor of the new plan, with one member voting against it and another abstaining, according to TRPA spokesman Jeff Cowan.
Business interests say the plan is an overdue overhaul of regulations that will jump-start Tahoe's tourism economy while also protecting its environment.
Final action expected Dec. 12 on Lake Tahoe Regional Plan Update

The meeting is scheduled to begin at 9:30 a.m. with brief statements by state leaders whose leadership resulted in key compromises allowing the plan to move forward, according to TRPA officials.

After attending the State of the South Shore Economy Public Forum held on October 23rd, 2012 I was inspired to draft a response to the questions about economic revitalization that were asked at the meeting. I feel like our group had many salient ideas that were not properly represented. Also, I have noticed that people are quick to offer ideas like “reduce unemployment”, “beautify the city”, and “improve recreation”, but they are typically unable to offer suggestions on how to make those ideas a reality.

Edgewood Lake Tahoe resort project approved by TRPA board

Lake Tahoe planning leaders gave their approval Thursday to a paradigm changing project at the South Shore, which would allow for a high-end resort complex at Edgewood Tahoe Golf Course, the site of the American Century Championship.
The governing board of the Tahoe Regional Planning Agency unanimously approved the Edgewood Tahoe Lodge and Golf Course realignment project that will make way for the 154-room lodge. Construction could begin in 2014, according to the Tahoe Daily Tribune.
Bonanza Park at South Lake Tahoe celebrates grand opening

UPDATE MONDAY: Saturday's grand opening of Bonanza Park brought community members of all ages to hear the dedication from Chuck Scharer, President and CEO of Edgewood Companies and South Lake Tahoe Mayor Claire Fortier.
Youth immediately began playing on the park equipment and the basketball court was ready to host its first game while hot dogs and hamburgers were grilled for the crowd of families and dignitaries to enjoy.

The North and South Lake Tahoe Chamber of Commerce leaders at Lake Tahoe have joined together to launch a Region-wide public participation campaign to harness the groundswell of support for a new vision to restore and revitalize the Basin. Called TahoeFuture.org, the campaign will focus, over the next 8 months, on two critical land-use and transportation plans that create a blueprint for a revitalized Lake Tahoe.

Tahoe planning agency Governing Board meeting schedule announced

The plan update contains five draft documents for the public, partner agencies and decision makers to review at a minimum for the next two months. Public discussions about the Update will continue through the year, with the Board expected to take final action on the plan by the end of 2012. Two percent TOT funds Tahoe City project; future money for Kings Beach
Submitted by Editor on Mon, 04/09/2012 - 2:04pmThe existing 2 percent Transient Occupancy Tax, which is up for renewal on the June 5, 2012 ballot, has funded a number of North Lake Tahoe public improvement projects and services since voters first authorized it in 1996.
The renewal, called Measure F, is not a tax increase and, if passed, would continue to be paid by lodging guests only via the TOT bed tax when they spend the night in North Lake Tahoe. North Lake Tahoe residents would not be taxed under Measure F.

Jerry Brown and lawmakers, the California Supreme Court ruled today the state can eliminate local agencies that subsidize construction in blighted areas. The decision strengthens the state's ability to take funds from redevelopment agencies, such as the one at South Lake Tahoe, for the current budget. It also provides leverage for state leaders to use more than $1 billion annually in redevelopment property tax dollars to balance future budgets.

Edgewood Companies plans summer opening of Bonanza Park

Edgewood acquired the C&M Lodge in order to reuse the associated Transient Occupancy Units (TAUs) on its new Lodge Project at the Edgewood Tahoe Golf Course, according to a news release.
Settlement reached in Tahoe pier dispute

The South Lake Tahoe City Council met Tuesday to pass an interim budget in an effort to have more time to work out labor negotiation and budget shortfall issues that have the community up in arms. There were no comments offered by council or the public, and the motion passed unanimously. Prior to the meeting there was a closed session for bargaining units to meet, and following was another closed session for council to hear the latest of the negotiations.
