A list of 90 golfers from the worlds of sports and entertainment head to South Lake Tahoe in just a few weeks for the 25th Annual American Century Golf Championship. Three of those heading to town spoke with reporters Tuesday, sharing their thoughts about golfing at Edgewood: Mike Eruzione, Vinny Del Negro and Gino Auriemma.

Several Troopers from the Nevada Highway Patrol, as well as other employees for the Department of Public Safety, will be volunteering their time to raise money for Special Olympics Nevada and California on Saturday, June 14, 2014 in the Hard Rock Café in Stateline between 11 a.m. and 4 p.m. and between 5 p.m and 9 p.m.

The NHP and DPS will be assisting the wait staff as they serve patrons in order to earn "special tips."

Fox & Hound of South Lake Tahoe brought home honors from the May 18 San Juan Bautista Rib Cook Off. Eight award winning rib teams cooked up thousands of pounds of ribs and sauces for the festival goers and judges. The Fox & Hound won 1st Place for their ribs and 2nd Place for their sauce!

The local restaurant, located at the top of Kingsbury Grade on Tramway Drive, has just begun competing in cook-offs but they have been bringing home the trophies.

On Wednesday, May 7, 2014 from 6-9pm, Freshies Restaurant will be hosting their 14th Annual Local’s Appreciation Party to thank the community for their continued support and love.

April 1, 2014 (Stateline, Nev.) - Lakeside Inn and Casino has received a lot of feedback from the South Lake Tahoe community on their announcement yesterday that they would raise cattle on Rabe Meadows.

April is a big month for Live Violence Free. It is national Child Abuse Prevention, as well as, Sexual Assault Awareness Month. The entire month is dedicated to honoring victims and survivors of both child abuse and sexual assault. With 80 percent of sexual assault victims being under the age of 30 and a report of child abuse made every ten seconds, it is vital we stand up against the dangers of the abuse. As two of our primary focuses at LVF, we are illuminating the truths and celebrating the efforts to combat the violence directly impacting our community.

Latin Soul Restaurant is expanding the menu to include Brazilian BBQ on selected nights beginning late March, 2014. Endless portions of slow-roasted meats will be carved table-side by gauchos. A new delivery service in town debuted their company at a ribbon cutting ceremony on February 11 at the TahoeChamber conference room. Sometimes surprises come at the right time. Megan Kasden spoke through tears this week when she answered the phone and found out she had won the Gene Upshaw Memorial Fund Super Bowl raffle. The prize is an all-expense paid trip for two to Super Bowl XLVIII at the Met Life Stadium. The raffle raised $30,000 for traumatic brain injury research and programs and services for cancer patients and families at the Gene Upshaw Memorial Tahoe Forest Cancer Center. The same center where Kasden’s husband, Gary had just completed a long series of chemotherapy treatments.

Bob and Tammy Hassett, current operators of Camp Richardson and Meeks Bay Resort have been selected to run the concession at Round Hill Pines Resort according to Cheva Heck of the U.S. Forest Service. The current lease is held by the Forvilly family and is set to expire on December 31, 2013. Frank Forvilly has operated Round Hill Pines since 1971 and just found out yesterday that they weren't awarded the new contract.

There has finally been a lot of construction action at the site of The Chateau Project in South Lake Tahoe over the last couple of months. Many locals have called this area "The Hole" since construction stalled in 2008 but they are now seeing life being put into one of the cornerstones of the South Lake Tahoe Tourist Core.

Sierra-at-Tahoe® Resort has invested $5 million into a new facility located at the base of the mountain transforming the current skier services area into a mecca for gathering and services that improve the overall skier/boarder experience.

My daughter and I had been planning our annual Apple Hill trek for several days when I decided to change it up a bit. Since my free time is so rare I figured why not include a visit to our favorite little town Sutter Creek? And then, since we're doing that, might as well throw in a drive down beautiful Highway 4! Since the portion of the road we'll be covering is closed after the first big snow we had to do it! The day was plotted on a map in my head with some verification on google maps. The map said our little trip was going to take 5 hours and 10 minutes and cover 225 miles.

This season Vail Resorts announced that the Epic Pass now includes 26 mountains in four countries. And now Vail Resorts is calling all globetrotting, Epic Pass-holding, die-hard skiers and snowboarders for The Epic Race – a season-long competition to visit all 26 resorts spread across four countries that make up the Epic Pass. The first 10 people to complete the race will receive an Epic Pass for life.

The South Lake Tahoe Moose Lodge 12TH Annual Kid’s Fishing Derby is being held this Sunday, September 22, at Tahoe Paradise’s Lake Baron. The Derby is FREE to all children under the age of 16. The lake is being stocked with thousands of trout just for this event.

Don't worry if you don't have fishing equipment: fishing poles, tackle, power bait, and worms are also provided free of charge, or bring your own if you want.

Here is this week's fishing report for rivers, lakes and streams in the Sierra, Northern California and Nevada. This report is for the week of Aug. 28 through Labor Day. Don't forget, California's second free day of fishing without a license will be Saturday, Sept. 7.

The 25th Annual Lake of the Sky Airshow has been cancelled for this Saturday, August 24th due to the air quality conditions which have been impacted by the two large fires outside of the Lake Tahoe basin. Also canceled was Sunday's Young Eagles Flights.

The Hard Rock Café, located inside Harveys Lake Tahoe at Stateline, Nev., is where all of the fun will be taking place during the lunch and dinner hours. Patrons will enjoy our employees serving as volunteer waiters and waitresses as they assist the restaurant staff that day while they work for “special tips.”

More than $1.6 million in course improvements highlight the 45th season of Edgewood Tahoe Golf Course, set to open at Stateline, Lake Tahoe May 9.

A 10-year environmental plan meant to reduce impact and save water has been put in place with upgrades to the irrigation system as well as drought and stress tolerant grass. Other improvements include GPS devices on carts that feature yardage and video tips from pros.
