Lucky Beaver Bar and Burger Toy Drive for Christmas Cheer a big success
Submitted by paula on Tue, 12/08/2020 - 9:08pmIt was the first year the Lucky Beaver Bar and Burger at Stateline held a toy drive for the South Shore, and it was a big success with organizer Dreu Murin saying over $10,000 worth of toys donated to children in the community.
Christmas Cheer, the South Lake Tahoe nonprofit that helps feed locals in need all year was also in need of toys to help bring joy during such trying times. Tom Davis of Christmas Cheer joined up with Murin and other community members to organize the event which brought toys from far and wide to Lake Tahoe on December 6.
Two upcoming movie premiers to raise funds for Sierra Avalanche Center

The Lake Tahoe premier of the feature movie, Blank Collective's film Before Blank, is headed to both north and south ends of the lake courtesy of Local Freshies® with a portion of proceeds going to the Sierra Avalanche Center (SAC).

Nevada doctor arrested on distribution of opioids and health care fraud charges
Submitted by paula on Tue, 12/12/2017 - 11:39amDr. Devendra I. Patel, aka Devendrakumar I. Patel, 58, of Elko, Nev., was arrested Tuesday on 39 charges of unlawful distribution of prescriptions opioids and Medicaid fraud.
Patel is charged with 36-counts of distribution of controlled substances such as oxycodone and hydrocodone, and three-counts of health care fraud. He is a cardiologist at his medical practice, Northeastern Nevada Cardiology. The statutory maximum penalty for distribution of a controlled substance is 10 years in prison and the maximum penalty for health care fraud is 10 years in prison.
Fundraiser at Flight Deck to benefit Sierra Avalanche Center

Flight Deck Sports Bar and Grill at the Lake Tahoe Airport is holding a Sierra Avalanche Center (SAC) fundraiser on Friday, December 1 starting at 6:00 p.m. There will be music by Cash Only Band's Davin & Dallas, raffle prizes, and the showing of a movie and short films, all for $10.
"Boondockers Fourteen," a snowmobile movie, will be shown along with short films by local Ty Dayberry and Bird Flu Crew, and a snowmobile avalanche awareness movie, "Knowledge is Power."
There will be food and drink specials all night long as well.
Backcountry skiers trigger avalanche near Mt. Rose
Submitted by paula on Sat, 11/18/2017 - 9:35pmThree skiers in the Hourglass Bowl area on Tamarack Peak near Mt. Rose triggered a 600 foot long avalanche around 10:45 a.m. Thursday. Nobody was seriously injured though two of the party were slammed into trees and rocks according to the Sierra Avalanche Center.
Heavy new snow was falling rapidly at the time. The avalanche was about three feet deep and 200 feet wide.
A group of 4 or 5 were skiing in the area, with three of them involved in the slide. Two of the skiers lost their skis and another had a possible broken ankle.
Road work pauses for the Memorial Day holiday
Submitted by paula on Thu, 05/25/2017 - 5:40pmRoadwork stops in South Lake Tahoe at 6:00 a.m. Friday, so drivers have an easy go of it until 6:00 a.m. Wednesday as crews break for the Memorial Day holiday. Those working on the City of South Lake Tahoe roads go by the same rules as Caltrans, so both will stop for this period.
Starting Wednesday, Caltrans continues on the three-year Highway 50 project from the Y to Trout Creek. This year's work is from the Y to Tahoe Keys Boulevard. Another project is the completion of the bike trail from El Dorado Beach to Ski Run Blvd.

In 2015, Martin created the guitar that is on display outside of the Hard Rock Lake Tahoe. Thursday night, his latest creation was unveiled at the new Golden 1 Center, the new home of the Sacramento Kings.
