James Anthony Biller ~ 1941 - 2020

James Anthony Biller was born in Ventura, CA, July 10, 1951, to Jack and Marjorie Biller. Growing up in Ventura, he surfed, sailed, played water polo for the Ventura High Cougars, and was one of the best swimmers Ventura High had ever seen, getting his varsity letter and pin as a sophomore and setting swimming records that stood for many years after he graduated in 1969. That Jim had a love of the beach, sailing, and everything that had to do with the water was obvious to everyone around him.

Maeson back home in South Lake Tahoe; Family thanks community for overwhelming support

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - It has been a wild two weeks for the Howard family, ever since ten-year-old Maeson entered the UC Davis Children’s Hospital with what appeared to be a COVID-19-releated multisystem inflammatory syndrome (MIS-C), or Kawasaki disease.

Maeson Howard is on the road to recovery and back in his Christmas Valley home with his parents and sister.

Upper Truckee River Marsh restoration update and video

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - Work is underway on the Upper Truckee Marsh to restore and enhance over 250 acres floodplain by returning river flows to the center of the marsh. This will enrich native fish and bird habitat and act as a natural pollution filter that will improve water quality before it reaches Lake Tahoe.

John Russell Rice, Jr. ~ 1957 - 2020

John Russell Rice Jr. died peacefully at Carson Tahoe Medical Center in Carson City, Nevada on February 23, 2020, from complications of a recently diagnosed medical condition, surrounded by family. He was 62.

John is preceded in death by his parents: father John Russell Rice Sr. of Fremont, Calif.; mother Elizabeth LaVerne Rice-Killion of South Lake Tahoe, Calif.; and his grandson Mason Allen Geist of Gardnerville, NV.

New executive director announced for Live Violence Free

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - Live Violence Free (LVF) has announced the hiring of a new executive director. Debra Dyason has joined the South Lake Tahoe-based non-profit tasked with promoting a violence-free community.

Debra brings 20 years of expertise as a senior non-profit leader, funder, public policy advocate, and recent Executive Director of a domestic violence and sexual assault agency (First Step of Wichita Falls, Tex.). Debra is passionate about empowering survivors so they can lead their best lives free from violence and abuse.

Annual SLTWYC community sailing clinic in South Lake Tahoe

Susan Allison Mancini ~ 3/26/62 - 4/30/19

Allison, also affectionately known as Allidaughter, was born in Bishop, California to Mary Strobel and Robert Dietz when Robert was the manager of the Mammoth Mountain Inn.

She attended Immaculate Heart High School in Hollywood and graduated from South Lake Tahoe High School. She studied at El Camino College and Lake Tahoe Community College.

Allison was an accomplished sailor spending almost every weekend during her early high school years sailing to Catalina Island.

Karl James Hildinger ~ 5/30/31 - 11/11/18

Karl James Hildinger was born in Danville, California on May 30, 1931. Jim passed away at home, surrounded by family, in South Lake Tahoe on November 11, 2018.

Three weeks after he was born, he was carried into Angora Lakes Resort in a Washoe papoose basket. He was a staunch environmentalist and spent his lifetime protecting and preserving Angora and the greater Lake Tahoe Basin. The Angora Lakes Resort remains in the family.

Two months of concerts kick off August 1 at Vahalla Boathouse Theater

For the next two months, the Valhalla Boathouse Theater at the Tallac Historic Site in South Lake tahoe will be home to several concerts, starting August 1.

Tahoe Windjammers presents Annual Sailing Clinic

The Tahoe Windjammer’s Yacht Club is having its annual Community Sailing Clinic on July 14th. This event includes classroom instruction on basic sailing and boating safety in the morning and on-the-water instruction as a guest on a member’s sailboat in the afternoon. The clinic is open to men and women of all experience levels. We try to match up participants to boats according to their abilities and interests to ensure the best sailing experience. If you have wanted to try sailing and haven’t had the opportunity, this is a great way to get the feel of it.

Volunteers needed for new coed Sea Scout Ship program

The South Lake Tahoe Yacht Club is sponsoring a new Sea Scout Ship for high school students and they are looking for five adult volunteers over the age of 21 to help. Local youth will learn small boat handling, sailing, wooden boat care and cruising.

There will be an adult training session on Saturday, March 10 at 11:00 a.m.

It takes team work to crew a sail boat and the Lake Tahoe Windjammer Yacht Club members brought their teaming skills to help the Bread & Broth volunteers serve the June 5th Monday Meal dinner at St. Theresa Grace Hall. Windjammers Yacht Club's Annual Chowder Feed and Membership Drive

Windjammers Yacht Club installs new officers

The Windjammers Yacht Club celebrated the holiday season and toasted to an enjoyable summer of sailing on Lake Tahoe at their annual Christmas party. After dinner and before dancing, the officers of the club for 2017 were inducted.
