Tahoe Douglas Fire and US Coast Guard respond to call of boat on fire near Dollar Point, Lake Tahoe

LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - A 43-year-old man was rescued from a burning boat on Lake Tahoe Monday evening.
Rescue boats on the lake, including those from the Coast Guard Station Lake Tahoe and Tahoe Douglas Fire Protection District (TDFPD), responded to the scene near Dollar Point on the North Shore.
A 26-foot Cobalt was on fire, carrying a reported 40 gallons of fuel onboard. The man on board was rescued by a Good Samaritan prior to the arrival of the rescue boats.
Dozens of new California laws go into effect in 2020

New laws will be going into effect in California in the new year, putting into place California legislature action during 2019. There are many changes including road safety and distracted driving penalties, roadkill rules, minimum wage, independent workers and rent caps.

At South Tahoe High School, the students celebrated the first day of Spring with jeans and t-shirts, as the temperatures got up to 50F and the ice melted away. This week started with an emotional experience at Challenge Day, students prepare for SAT and ACT testing, the athletics team have kicked off their seasons.

Sunken sailboat now back afloat on Lake Tahoe

The 26-foot sailboat that spent most of the winter at the bottom of Lake Tahoe is now back afloat and resting just off the shore of El Dorado Beach.

The sunken sailboat off the shore of South Lake Tahoe near El Dorado Beach will soon be a thing of the past. All winter long the mast of the sunken boat could be seen from the shore, and as water levels rose, the mast tipped over more.
According to the U.S. Coast Guard (USCG) in North Lake Tahoe, they had sent a crew to the boat during the winter to document and verify the sinking, retrieved the vessel number and made contact with its owner. USCG said they also made the information public so boaters would be forewarned of the hazard.

On January 23, 2017, snow caused the roof collapse of the historic building that housed not only the Green Tahoe Market and Liquor Store on Harrison Avenue in South Lake Tahoe, but also the Lucky Dog Thrift Store.
When the roof collapsed, the sprinkler system was set off and the water main broke, sending gallons of water through the stores in the building. Clean up and building repairs are still underway.

What was once the only authentic paddle wheeler cruising on Lake Tahoe is now being dismantled after a fire destroyed the boat on August 18, 2016.
Resolve Marine, an international ship salvage company out of Ft. Lauderdale, Fl., arrived at the Zephyr Cove Resort six days ago to begin the process of taking apart the 119' foot passenger boat, the Tahoe Queen.
Mandatory meeting for Fall Fire Academy applicants at LTCC

Students who want to apply for admission to the Lake Tahoe Basin Fire Academy at Lake Tahoe Community College for Fall 2015 must attend a mandatory orientation meeting on Wednesday, Aug. 5 at 6 p.m. in the Board/Aspen Room on campus.
Reservations are not required for this meeting, and anyone interested in the program is welcome to attend. Based on student demand, there may be a random lottery for available seats in the Fire Academy. Students will not be eligible for the lottery unless they attend this orientation meeting.
Fire ravaged forest brings sadness, also beauty for campers

Several members of a group of campers from Sacramento didn't even realize they were near the King Fire's burn zone as they set up tents at the Ponderosa Cove Campsite.
Fortunately, one camper did understand the risk from burned trees and branches that can still fall on unsuspecting hikers.

Angora fire restoration draws complaints
Submitted by Anonymous on Fri, 11/11/2011 - 11:55amA prescribed forest burn in the Angora fire area caused quite a stir earlier this month after wind gusts of up to 50 mph carried some of the burn slash piles and brush further than what was comfortable for nearby homeowners.
The U.S. Forest Service, however, says that at no point did the prescribed fire, which consisted mostly of slash piles and dead trees, get out of hand and the agency remains both cautious about its undertaking and empathetic to nearby neighbors who rebuilt their homes following the June 2007 Angora fire.
