Kids Looking for Things to do This Summer? How About STAR Camp?

The City of South Lake Tahoe Community Services department started their STAR (South Tahoe Adventure Recreation) camps this week. Youth and teens ages 6 to 16 can use this summer to explore Lake Tahoe by enjoying field trips, swimming, going to the beach and many other activities, all in a safe and fun environment.

South Lake Tahoe Library Programs to Keep Kids Busy All Summer

The South Lake Tahoe branch of the El Dorado County Library has a full schedule of kid's entertainment for the summer.

“Spring Into Summer” at South Lake Tahoe Recreation and Swim Complex

The South Lake Tahoe Recreation Division is gearing up for another summer season full of adventure, learning, fun and great memories. The Recreation staff is geared up to host the second annual “Spring Into Summer” Kick- Off Party on June 7, 2014 from 10am to 2pm. The event is designed to highlight summer programs, introduce Recreation Instructors and provide tours of the Recreation and Swim Complex in a fun and festive environment.

Patient Safety Awareness Week at Barton Health

“The patient is our focus and that’s why we put the patient at the top of the pyramid,” said Dr. Clint Purvance. Today [March 5], Dr. Purvance, Barton Health’s Chief Medical Officer, as well as Barton employees and community members gathered to recognize Patient Safety Awareness Week at Barton Memorial Hospital. Dr. Purvance highlighted Barton’s “excellence in performance and commitment to patient safety.”

Ruffwear Doggone Van Tour in South Lake Tahoe

Success at 4th Annual Sample the Sierra

Despite smoky skies, South Lake Tahoe was still a hot spot this Labor Day Weekend. The 4th Annual Sample the Sierra festival brought in masses of people to taste the unique flavors of the Sierra Nevada. The kickoff Winemakers Dinner at Bumgarner Winery spoiled attendees with a five course meal prepared in the wood fired oven with each course appropriately paired with one of Bumgarner’s fine wines. Saturday’s Sip & Shop at Après Wine Company drew more than 20 people to taste C.G. Di Arie wines and gourmet cheeses.

Initial Greenway Bike Path phase coming in ’14

The significance of a stretch of bike trail cannot be measured in its length. Such is the case with the initial phase of the South Tahoe Greenway Trail that is slated to be built next summer. It will be less than a half-mile and comes with a construction price tag of about $500,000.

New bear cub brought to Lake Tahoe Wildlife Care

Lake Tahoe Wildlife Care has taken in a new bear cub, reports Tom Millham, founder. The cub came from the Humboldt area in northwest California, "because its mom was found dead." The cub was transported by LTWC Volunteer Linda McKenzie and her husband, Lonny.

Lake Tahoe cyclists look to break world record today

Today is the day: South Lake Tahoe bicycle group Slow Rollers is asking the community to come out to its second annual Spirit Bike Parade today and an attempt to break the Guinness Book of World Records by forming the longest single line of bicycles. To beat the record, now held by the city of Davis of 916 bicycles, South Lake Tahoe will have to produce 917 bicycles or more. The event begins at 4 p.m. with a start up at the old Miller's Outpost, South Shore Bikes, 955 Emerald Bay Road. Get there early to register.

Tahoe business and building continues on the west side

On the west side of town, two new buildings are under construction and one is for sale: a Raley's gas station at its shopping center at the "Y" and a new California Conservation Corps facility in Meyers, next to Lira's Supermarket, are currently being built, while Sierra Recovery Center is seeking to move out of its location on Emerald Bay Road.
