Nevada Highway Patrol troopers as well as other employees for the state's Department of Public Safety will be volunteering their time at Lake Tahoe to raise money for Special Olympics Nevada and California, Friday, June 14.

The Hard Rock Café, located inside Harveys Lake Tahoe at Stateline, Nev., is where all of the fun will be taking place during the lunch and dinner hours. Patrons will enjoy our employees serving as volunteer waiters and waitresses as they assist the restaurant staff that day while they work for “special tips.”

Tahoe Regional Young Professionals will host its May mixer at Naked Fish's recently remodeled Lounge, tonight, May 15, from 6:30 – 9:30 p.m. Festivities will consist of a free sake beverage, discounts on the entire menu, networking and several raffle prizes including a $50 Naked Fish gift card.

Tourism is a constantly evolving industry. Each year, the TahoeChamber and the Lake Tahoe Visitor’s Authority strive to keep our business community up to date on developing trends by hosting an Annual Tourism Forum.

This year’s forum is scheduled for April 18, 3:30-6pm in the Cabaret Theater at Harveys. The City of South Lake Tahoe is offering Emergency Preparation Guides for community members. As part of the City's initiative to increase communications, we will be offering a 12 part monthly series during 2013 highlighting emergency preparedness. These useful tools will assist citizens in preparing for emergencies.

The first emergency guide in the series focuses on “Action Plans” and provides suggestions for creating a family emergency disaster plan. The guide also provides contact numbers for agencies located within City limits and throughout El Dorado County.

The program focuses on teaching children what to do should they ever find themselves lost in the wilderness. This year the program will be held at the Incline Elementary School on Wednesday, Feb. 6.

With cold weather upon us, the U.S. Forest Service Lake Tahoe Basin Management Unit reminds residents to use caution when disposing of woodstove or fireplace ashes. Ashes can remain live and capable of starting a fire for several days, even when they appear to be out.

The El Dorado County Department of Environmental Health was notified this week by the California Department of Public Health that two additional chipmunks in the South Lake Tahoe area have tested positive for plague. One of the chipmunks was found in the Tallac Historic Site area and one was near the U.S. Forest Service Taylor Creek Visitor Center.
