Snowboard champion Jamie Anderson gives back to South Lake Tahoe community on Winter Solstice

On Friday, Dec. 21, the Winter Solstice, pro snowboarder Jamie Anderson will provide a surprise sponsorship for four lucky kids and hold a winter clothing drive in South Lake Tahoe, Calif. In partnership with Sierra-at-Tahoe Resort and the Lake Tahoe Unified School District, Anderson will sponsor four young, middle school students from her hometown this winter season with a “surprise sponsorship". Anderson will award Alondra Gomez, 13, Megan Rose Aquino, 13, Cesar Hernandez, 13, and Guillermo Perez Morris, 12, an Unlimited Sierra Resort season pass, brand new Billabong outerwear, a GNU snowboard, boots and bindings, goggles, and Skullcandy headphones valued more than $2,400 each.

Anderson, 22, was born and raised in South Lake Tahoe, California and created the Jamie Anderson Surprise Sponsorship to give back to the community and provide less fortunate kids with the opportunity to snowboard. With the help of Dr. James Tarwater, the Lake Tahoe Unified School District Superintendent, Anderson worked with the school district to identify students that showed academic promise, strong work ethic, and moxie.

“I’m excited to provide these kids this opportunity for the second year in a row. I was so lucky to grow up snowboarding at Sierra Resort, and I want to give that opportunity to others. It’s always fun to spread holiday cheer and surprise four amazing kids with an entire set up and season pass, so they can ride all season long and hopefully fall in love with snowboarding like I did. It feels awesome! I’m so blessed to have this opportunity,” said Anderson.

On December 21, 2012, Dr. Tarwater and the four students will come up to Sierra Resort where they will receive their snowboard gear and spend the afternoon with six time Winter X Games medalist and recent Dew Tour champion. Anderson will share snowboarding tips with the recipients, take runs with them, and introduce them to the sport of snowboarding. Both Anderson and Sierra-at-Tahoe Resort hope to empower the kids, show them their potential, and open doors that may not have otherwise been open.

Anderson will also extended her philanthropic efforts on December 21, 2012 to support the Live Violence Free center, formerly the Tahoe Women’s Center, by setting up a giving station where community members can deliver coats, other warm clothing items, and meet and greet with Anderson from 10 a.m. until noon. Sierra Resort is proud to partner with Anderson in her efforts to give back to the South Lake Tahoe community.
