Lake Tahoe Bicycle Coalition's Top 10 list of 2014 bicycle events

From exciting bike events to new world-class bike trails, 2014 was a great year for biking in Lake Tahoe. In no particular order, the Lake Tahoe Bicycle Coalition presents ten of the best highlights from the past 12 months:

Construction of a new Class I bike trail as part of the award-winning restoration of Snow Creek. The new path links the Class I trail from the NTPUD parking lot at National Ave and Tahoe Vista Recreation Area Beach to the North Tahoe Regional Park.

A new 1.7 mile Class I bike path provides cyclists a beautiful wooded route parallel to Lake Tahoe Boulevard from Viking Way to Sawmill Rd, providing a critical link for residents to reach the South Tahoe "Y."

Dedication of the second segment of Nevada's Stateline-to-Stateline, South Shore Demonstration Project - a Class I bike path connecting to Round Hill Pines.

A very successful Tahoe Bike Challenge, complete with a vibrant Cycle Celebration and the Bicycle Achievement Awards. Participants rode more than 17,000 miles!
2.6 miles of existing Class I bike paths in South Lake Tahoe were resurfaced and refurbished over the summer, thanks to Measure R funding and city funds.

Completion of the Monument Trail, an outstanding new three mile route for mountain bikers to ride from High Meadow to the Tahoe Rim Trail at Monument Pass.

Tahoe Fund raised $750,000 for the new bike path from Incline Village to Sand Harbor State Park, with construction to begin in 2015.

A new Class I bike trail connecting Fallen Leaf Campground to the Pope Baldwin National Recreation Trail.

California joined Nevada in passing legislation to protect cyclists by requiring drivers to give bicyclists a three foot buffer when passing!

Major improvements to the Lower Corral Trail thanks to a partnership between the Tahoe Area Mountain Biking Association (TAMBA) and the Forest Service. From exciting bike events to world-class new bike trails, 2014 was a great year for biking in Tahoe.
