Slow moving traffic leaving South Lake Tahoe after long holiday weekend
Submitted by paula on Mon, 01/02/2017 - 11:31am
With roads clear on Sunday it still took drivers almost three hours to make it the 99 miles Stateline to Sacramento, and it appears today will be worse due to heavy snow and chain controls.
The California Highway Patrol is currently working on a collision by Ice House Road and Highway 50 and they closed the road at 11:16 a.m. to clear the vehicles.
They are also working on accidents near Bridal Veil Falls and the old St. Paulie's Inn. Bridal Veil Falls area was also the scene of many Sunday evening accidents.
Vehicles attempting to get around the long line of cars leaving South Lake Tahoe in Meyers are creating issues for CHP and other drivers by putting on chains in the middle of North Upper Truckee Road.
With many tourists in town for the long weekend, expect slow moving traffic all day.
If driving mountain roads today, be prepared, take food, water and warm clothing on your journey, and be prepared to go slow.
