Wind Advisory and chance of snow part of the Lake Tahoe weekend forecast

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - Friday is a day to get out and enjoy Lake Tahoe as the thermometer is expected to reach 51 degrees before a small system comes into the Basin, bringing a 20 percent chance of snow to the region Saturday.

Expect partly sunny skies and southwest wind around 5 mph during the day Friday.

Starting at 9:00 p.m. Friday night, a Lake Wind Advisory is in place until 4:00 p.m. Saturday. According to the National Weather Service (NWS) in Reno, winds will be from the southwest 15-20 mph with gusts up to 40 mph. Waves could reach 2-4 feet with the highest ones from mid-lake to the north and east shores.

The strongest winds and roughest lake conditions are expected late tonight through Saturday morning. Small boats, kayaks and paddleboards will be prone to capsizing and should remain off lake waters until conditions improve.

Tonight - Partly cloudy, with a low around 27. Southwest wind 10 to 15 mph, with gusts as high as 30 mph.

Saturday - A 20 percent chance of snow before 10am. Mostly sunny, with a high near 47. Southwest wind 10 to 15 mph, with gusts as high as 25 mph.

Saturday Night - Partly cloudy, with a low around 21. Southwest wind around 5 mph.

Sunday - Sunny, with a high near 42. West wind around 10 mph, with gusts as high as 20 mph.
Sunday Night - Mostly clear, with a low around 14.
