Fire Weather Watch and Lake Wind Advisory for South Lake Tahoe

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - The National Weather Service (NWS) in Reno has issued a Lake Wind Advisory for South Lake Tahoe, Tahoe City, Truckee, Markleeville, Stateline, Glenbrook, and Incline Village from 11:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. Saturday.

Expect southwest winds 15 to 25 mph with gusts up to 40 mph expected. Waves will be 2 to 4 feet with highest waves on the northeast shores.

Small boats, kayaks and paddle boards will be prone to capsizing and should remain off lake waters until conditions improve.

A Fire Weather Watch has been issued for 1:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Saturday due to those winds.

Humidity is expected from 20 to 35 percent. Even though humidity will be above the normal criteria for fire weather, the winds will be gusty enough to efficiently spread fire, especially with very dry fuel conditions.

The previously forecast rain and upper elevation snow has changed. According to NWS Reno, there is a reduced precipitation potential and temperatures don`t look to be quite as cool, with highs only dipping a few degrees below average through this weekend.
