Lake Wind Advisory in effect for Lake Tahoe Friday

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - The National Weather Service in Reno has issued a Lake Wind Advisory for Greater Lake Tahoe Area and Tahoe, Donner, Fallen Leaf, Prosser, and Boca for Friday, June 12 from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 p.m.

Winds will be from the southwest 15-25 mph with gusts up to 40 mph. Waves 2-4 feet on Lake Tahoe can be expected.

Small boats, kayaks, and paddleboards will be prone to capsizing and should remain off lake waters until conditions improve.

The three-day forecast:

Friday - A 30 percent chance of showers after 11am. Mostly sunny, with a high near 67. Breezy, with a southwest wind 10 to 15 mph increasing to 20 to 25 mph in the afternoon. Winds could gust as high as 35 mph.

Friday Night - A chance of rain showers before 5am, then a slight chance of rain and snow showers. Snow level 9600 feet lowering to 6900 feet after midnight . Partly cloudy, with a low around 37. Breezy, with a west wind 20 to 25 mph decreasing to 10 to 15 mph after midnight. Winds could gust as high as 35 mph. Chance of precipitation is 50%. Little or no snow accumulation expected.

Saturday - A slight chance of rain and snow showers before 8am, then a slight chance of rain showers between 8am and 11am. Snow level 6700 feet rising to 8100 feet in the afternoon. Mostly sunny, with a high near 60. Southwest wind 5 to 15 mph, with gusts as high as 25 mph. Chance of precipitation is 20%.

Saturday Night - Partly cloudy, with a low around 36. West wind 10 to 15 mph decreasing to 5 to 10 mph in the evening. Winds could gust as high as 25 mph.

Sunday - Mostly sunny, with a high near 69. Light and variable wind becoming west 5 to 10 mph in the afternoon.

Sunday Night - Mostly clear, with a low around 42.
