Tahoe Derby Dames looking for more roller derby skaters

The Tahoe Derby Dames are entering their eight season as South Lake Tahoe's all-female amateur flat track roller derby league and they're looking for skaters to join them, no matter what the experience level is.

They represent a wide variety of backgrounds and professions as they strive to serve as positive role models for young girls in the community while introducing Lake Tahoe to an up and coming, family friendly sport.

All skating abilities are invited to join in "Modern Womens Flat Track Roller Derby"

which is a growing international sport that includes a mixture of full-contact skating, athletic training and a grass roots do-it-yourself attitude.

The Dames offer general training for the new-on-your-skates to the well seasoned derby girl transferring to the lake. Practices are co-ed (offering everyone the chance to skate) while bouts follow the association's (www.wftda.com) guidelines.
Equipment borrowing is on a first come/first fit basis but they do ask that you bring a mouth guard.

They are training indoors at Kahle Community Center through the winter on Sundays and Tuesdays from 8 p.m. to 10 p.m. Email the group for information on joining at tahoederbydames@sbcglobal.net.
