South Tahoe and Whittel High School students honored by Soroptimists

In a tradition dating back decades, the Soroptimist International of South Lake Tahoe recognized local high school students for not only their academic and athletic achievements, but for their work in the community.

The Young Women of Distinction awards were presented to 11 high school seniors during the service club's meeting on January 17. For South Tahoe High, the honored students were Jessie Brown, Lourdes (Lulu) Gutierrez, Celeste Holmes, Shelby Lyon, Evelyn Munguia Reyes and Theresa Sandborn. From Whittell High School, Tatum Bunnett, Madison Evans, Madison Peterson, Makena Snipes, Gabriela Trachsel were honored.

All of the young women have an interesting path ahead of them. Both Theresa Sandborn and Jessie Brown are planning on studying aeronautical engineering in college; Lulu Gutierrez, Shelby Lyon, Evelyn Reyes plan college and careers in the medical field; Gabby Trachsel is planning on a law career; Makena Snipes is headed into film producing; Economics will be Madison Peterson's area of study; Madison Evans will be majoring in Chemical Engineering, Celeste Holmes will be attending LTCC with plans on entering the physician assistant program at Pacific University Oregon, and Tatum Bunnett will take a gap year and bike across America.

Soroptimist International of South Lake Tahoe was formed in 1958 and has been serving the South Shore community ever since with scholarships, service projects, educational services and other avenues of service.
