South Tahoe and Whittell High School girls recognized by Soroptimists

In a tradition dating back decades, the Soroptimist International of South Lake Tahoe recognized local high school students for not only their academic and athletic achievements, but for their work in the community.

The Young Women of Distinction awards were presented to ten high school seniors during the service club's meeting on January 17. For South Tahoe High, the honored students were Emily Abuhajleh, Sierra Bedwell, Maya Brosch, Lacey Chappel, Emily Doyle and Maia Smith. From Whittell High School, Samantha Forvilly, Eva Fuller-Wilmarth, Aspen Kidd and Marissa Maidman were selected.

All of the honored young women are headed to colleges from University of Nevada Reno to San Diego State and many points in between. They plan on being future doctors, artists, teachers as well as active citizens.

Soroptimist International of South Lake Tahoe was formed in 1958 and has been serving the South Shore community ever since with scholarships, service projects, educational services and other avenues of service.
